Another pub, rescued by the locals, that might be worth a visit at some point.

If you go there, whatever you do, don't upset the neighbours. :P

Tonight, huggy and I will be visiting the Compasses at Littley Green, via a slightly circuitous (100km) route as part of a gratuitous hunt for teh shiny!

ETA at the compasses between 9:30pm and 10:00pm.

Tomsk, wanna head over to Witham and join my led ride on Sunday?  1030 from Spinks Lane and off to The Cats via TMNH

We joined the Chelmsford CTC Sunday run today, adding about 35 miles onto their roundabout trip to Maldon.

FORWARD PLANNING ALERT: I'm giving Book Club a miss on Wednesday: last chance for some miles before 'The Flatlands'....

I was mulling over the idea of the Queen's Head in Maldon on Weds... possibly preceded by a visit to a chip shop there.  A chance for some miles, some Essex energy drink AND carbo-loading for those doing the Flatlands on the claendar date ;)

I'm open to other suggestions though.

I'm available this Wednesday evening.  I don't mind where we go although could do without not being late home as I have a busy day on Thursday.

I was just talking to OD about that pub yesterday, I like that place! I too would prefer not so many miles, though I've only got the one route suggestion which we did (minus the OD roman road/ford bypass!).

I'm definitely up for a spin on Wednesday, Maldon area suits me as long as Tomsk (and Soupy? (maybe even Old Git??)) are ok with that bearing in mind their ride home from there after refreshments.  From a purely selfish perspective my priority after a last loosening-the-legs ride is to chat with Flatlands Team Essex Captain Tomsk for a while  ::-)

Maldon is fine by me. Queen's Head is good too - is this the only pub of that name to feature Anne Boleyn on the sign? [Good ol'Essex Girl, despite not being orange :D]

Eta? Probably 8:30 at the earliest for me....

Who was that in the blue YACF jersey I saw outside Howbridge School on Monday?

The Anne Boleyn pub, Rochford, used to have the Queens head but I think it was decapitated when it changed to a carvery pub.

The only person I can think of locally with a blue one is huggy. Not sure what he'd be doing around that area, mind you.  Further afield, there's TimC, but I guess he's even less likely to have been in the vicinity.  Hmmmm ???

What's the plan for tonight?

The only bit I'm not sure about is the chippy as I am on Day 4 of my new healthy lifestyle.  I will allow myself some Essex Energy Drink as I will of been on me bike but chips etc  :hand:

I should be able to set off by 7:30 tonight, so depending on route, we could easily be there (pub or chippy (doesn't look like this any more, but is still in the same place ;)) by 8:30-8:45-ish.  I see that there is a preference for not too many miles among the members of the Witham crew, so perhaps something like this taking in Beacon Hill, North Hill and (via a gratuitous detour) Market Hill Maldon.

Oaky, that all looks lovely.  I (and probably Huggy) will meet you at 7:30 by the mini roundabout on Maldon Road just before it dives under the A12

It was indeed me!   :smug:
However, as a certain OD has just messaged me to accuse me of loitering outside Primary Schools I can prove by my linked Strava track that it would have been about 6:30pm and I did not stop, only looking up to say hello to a cyclist plus son daughter travelling in the opposite direction.  Was that you rr?

I never had a single doubt as to your character!  My concern was about how others might view the facts. 2+2 can very easily equal 5!

That's a bad choice of chippy. There's only one real chippy in Maldon and that's the Friendly Fryer at the top of the High St behind the Blue Boar.
