Outbound, something like this looks to be all gritted (and offers ample options for short-cutting if I'm not feeling the joy).

I might even go for an intercept at Heybridge.

4.6 miles outbound? Sounds good, should be out.

Do you have sufficient buff coverage for such an odyssey ?

Should be able to make Great Totham with just the 3. This is sounding a bit Scot of the Antarctic, hopefully with a better outcome.

How about a direct to the pub, aiming to meet at 800pm(ish) and leave by 1000(ish) so we can all take it easy and early.  A post midnight end sounds too cold....

I'm happy to go with the flow.

(A version of the longer planned route is here but I'm equally happy to just go straight there and back.)

Grey Sheep is clearly almost as wise as his years  ;D

An early start and finish  sounds sensible, even more so if it can be achieved (Oaky !).

Just for the record, I have been hijacked by colonials so that's my excuse for not braving the chilly evening air.

I think so.

I'll try and make it to Spa Road for 7:30, for the direct route to the Compasses via Blue Mills Hill and Mountains Road.

I have received an invite from the Lee Valley Velodrome for the period April to June if as a club we would like to visit again.  The sessions we have usually enjoyed are on Wednesday evenings starting at 8pm.  Weekend mornings are also available but we have not been allocated one of those yet.
I have a short window in which to reply if we want to apply for a club session.  Please reply here if you are interested.  If I get enough interest I'll apply.

I couldn't believe that the forward planning schedule had us down to visit a school on Wednesday evening. On checking the festival website, I found the beer festival is indeed within the school. One wonders what future enterprising schools may open their doors for ...

Back to arrangements for this Wednesday, I note the following:

If you're lucky to look young, then please make sure you bring proof of age with you.

I guess that applies to all of us  :)

You are welcome to travel by bicycle, however, we take no responsibility for it.

What are the bike storage arrangements like?

Are we looking to meet at the usual time, or is there benefit in arriving earlier and leaving earlier (like some folk thought they might try doing last week)?

I'm not a great fan of this earlier kick off time - more traffic en route and more time to be misled in to more essex energy drinks

I have no idea on the parking arrangements at Kegs, not sure I've attended before.  Suspect it will be like the Maldon one where there is plenty of Harris Fencing to lock to.

There will be tons of space to lock up bikes.

Even if you just use the car park or a random fence (there's lots of building work going on at the moment with various fences to lock bikes to).

There might even be a bike shed (there always used to be), although the last pupil I saw using a bicycle to get to school at Kegs rather than an orange mother in an X5 was Alex Dowsett many years ago.

I live behind the school. Unfortunately there's loads of fences to scale these days, so I can't use the field as a short cut anymore. Wankers...
Those wonderful norks are never far from my thoughts, oh yeah!

Thanks bobb and jibers ... aiming for 9pm is fine for me, I just wasn't sure given it's a beer festival therefore somewhat different from the norm. I shall also be watching out for those 'orange mothers'  :)

I've planned my route, aiming to acquire 2 squares on the way. Sometimes I think jibers should have kept this square collecting pastime to himself, but then I'm discovering some interesting off-road alternatives that I wouldn't otherwise have had the inclination to explore.
