Dearly beloved, it has once again fallen to me to organise this year's Christmas Bash  ;D

In a refreshing departure from tradition the event this year will be held next year, in January (I hope you're keeping up at the back - you look confused), this is largely to accommodate one of our number who keeps bogging off to The Colonies.

2014 has been special in that the Mid-Essex Mid-Week Nocturnal Series has attracted a fair number of new members, all of whom are very much welcome.  We periodically mention, often in hushed tones, the Christmas bashes and the legends they have created so I thought it might be worth compiling a compendium of previous events:

2008 - inaugural event held at the Square & Compasses, Fuller Street
2009 - The Duck, Newney Green.  First appearance of the musical Carradice
2010 - The Cock, Henham then the 'Uts.  We move to the overnight format
2011 - Jalsa Ghar, Gt Dunmow and first time we camp
2012 - Heybridge.  Camping and the first appearance of The Musky Reindeer Pelt of Destiny
2013 - The Compasses, Littlely Green.  Camping in the beer garden

The Musky Reindeer Pelt of Destiny has it's own thread.

More to follow ...

This is an excellent move, OD, pushing our Christmas celebrations into January and therefore more in line with the Russian Orthodox Christmas.

Can we assume that there will be a greater emphasis on beards this year?

^^^ Blimey, that's uncanny!

Beards are always welcome, I won't be growing one as they make me look like a tramp.

Anyhow, please get the date in your diaries, I am working on some ideas which I will float past you all presently for your approval etc.

Actually, I was lying. Del couldn't make it and he employed Teethgrinder as a body double.

I hope, in the spirit of this ride, you'll devise a suitable narwhal-shaped route for our perambulations*.  (Of course, your Garmin would only get ideas above it's station and draw a CDC instead, complete with a spurt to Great Yarmouth).

 ;D

* Is there a cycling equivalent of a "perambulation"?

I'm working on a "points of the compass" concept. Now then, I know that all the Compasses pubs in our area have nothing to do with navigational compasses so keep your smartarse comments to yourselves  ;D

We can discuss matters this evening.

Re our text chats about Compasses, I'm now told the Compasses at Pattiswick is a bit restraunty (its a real word) may not be suitable.

On a led ride once I took a group to the Axe and Compasses and they made cakes for us and did teas and coffee late morning, this was before it 'changed' though. Might help the 'we dont open until 12' issues that we had last year when trying to obtain beer in the morning.

I can't come tonight, Goldhanger ??!! wtf where's that? I have parish matters to attend to.

You're doing a great job though OD.

Goldhanger is near Maldon!

Can you spread word of the Xmas Do amongst The Flying Helmets?

I hope you enjoy this evening's cushion making class.

Lunchtime, evening, or weekend affair with a bit of riding? Auto spell check changes the words without you noticing!

Now I understand.

We're fooking good at this shit so the plan offers ultimate flexibility.  You can just dip in for an hour or two or lose a complete weekend.

Watch this space and the plan will unfold ....

The Compasses at Pattiswick is defnitely a bit restauranty! I think you need at minimum a Range Rover to be allowed to enter the car park, and (immaculate) green wellies are de rigeur. Ideal, then...

And if you turn up in a reindeer costume you'll risk getting shot and served up for mains.
