Pesky jumping text in message box on YACF
« on: 27 April, 2010, 05:11:56 pm »
When i post a message on YACF that is larger than the message text box the text starts jumping around and I cant see what i'm typing.

It looks like once the message gets larger than the text box, the display jumps between the character just typed at the end of the message and the beginning of the message.

I normally use Avant Browser on Vista, but get the same thing in IE8 but not in firefox 3.

This is an annoyance as I have the options of putting up with it in my preffered browser or switching to another browser.

Does anyone else have the same problems ?

Is anyone aware of a work around other than switching browsers ?

I used to get that in IE 8  , it's really annoying.

I use Chrome all the time now, so problem solved!

Only use IE8 but get the same sh*t.

I would be very grateful if someone has a fix 'cos it would save my sanity. . .

It's a known IE8 issue, apparently "turning on compatibility mode" fixes it:-

(linky from another place) Forum posts shake up/ down

(I'm not an IE user, so have no idea where you'd do that).

I believe that Avant uses IE's rendering engine behind the scenes, hence why it's affected by the same thing I guess.

Thanks Oaky. You are right on all counts and problem now seems to be solved.

Avant does use the IE rendering engine. I could not find any compatability options in avant itself but switching on compatability in IE8 forces Avant to use the IE7 rendering and posting now displays properly.

I looked at the Avant forums and apparently it should have been using IE7 compatability mode regardless of the IE8 settings but clearly this was not the case.

For others who are not sure how to turn on compatability mode in IE8, you will find it on the Tools Menu. Just click on "tools" then "Compatability View" whilst looking at YACF and the site should now always view properly.

I am so glad I read this thread.

Thanks Oaky and 2_Flat_Erics for this small piece of regained sanity.
