Saw one being played last night.
Weird and well, weird!
-
Why?
UOGB includes one. I own a concert uke, never played a soprano. No different really from violin, viola, cello, double bass
-
Why weird? Hearing bass notes and not seeing a bass!
They've only been around 7 years according to Wiki, so perhaps it isn't surprising I've not seen one before.

Most instruments are just cooler in bass form.

Jaded, thanks for mentioning bass ukuleles but look what you made me do: <snip> There is a lovely video demo of it here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqo_6g8KRXo).
Wow! Great sound for such a small instrument, scale is more or less the same as my octave mandolin.
-
What's with the strings? They look like they have a rubber/plastic-y coating.
-
Thank you.
-
As pointed out by the UOGB, the bass ukulele is larger than the others, so will burn longer in an emergency.
-
And how does one become the bass player in the UOGB?

(Can't remember if there was a bass in there anywhere)

Jaded, thanks for mentioning bass ukuleles but look what you made me do: yesterday I ordered the bass ukulele in the picture, a Kala U-Bass ukulele (https://kalabrand.com/collections/all-solid-mahogany-acoustic-electric-ubass/products/ubass-smhg-fs). There is a lovely video demo of it here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqo_6g8KRXo).
