Heard 'White Winter Hymnal' as backing to that kayak clip someone posted. Beautiful song, so went and bought it. Might have to buy the album now.

[Amazon]If you like Fleet Foxes then you'll probably like "The Wilderness of Manitoba" (thanks Deano for the pointer )

I'm playing it most days at the moment, alternating with the new Neil Young

That's where I came across them too.

Fleet Foxes, heard on the kayaking clip linked by adamski:

I hadn't heard of them before. Hmmm...   :-\
Described by someone as Neil Diamond meets the Beach Boys.   ???
I think they meant Neil Young.

Have you seen their clip with the singing goats?  ;D
It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

I have some video footage of ordinaries riding round the velodrome at Herne Hill with WWH playing over the PA system.  it cheers me up something rotten when I watch it

Fleet Foxes are ace. Wilderness of Manitoba also great. If you like these, I would also recommend Great Lake Swimmers, Okkervil River, Iron and Wine, and our local heroes, The Gertrudes (terrible name, great band) whose first album, Dawn Time Riot is soon available from here: Dawn Time Riot | The Gertrudes (some sample tracks already there for download).

Will have to check out The Gertrudes as I like the other bands you mention.

And if you like those try out Blitzen Trapper, The Low Anthem, Ravens & Chimes and the Besnard Lakes.

I've never got on with the Fleet Foxes - it seems too nice.

Check out Mountain Man instead, who sing beautifully and seem to be what Fleet Foxes only imagine themselves to be.

I think Fleet Foxes are exactly what they are - their sound sounds almost mediaeval to me in parts, but clearly they aren't from the C14th. I am sure Mountain Man are good too and I will check them out. But why does this always have to be an authenticity competition?

Remember Creedance Clearwater Water Revival? Awesome band. Were they really 'born on the bayou'? Were they fuck?

Midlake's first album was based on an imaginary late C19th complete with a whole cast of oddball characters but with music in the style of the the late 60s/early 70s LA sound. Not remotely 'authentic'. But brilliant.

Huh?  I never said anything about authenticity - I don't give a shit about authenticity.  There's rarely anything "authentic" about college kids imitating music first performed by poor immigrants, but who cares?

I just don't think Fleet Foxes are very good.
