Pogies/hand warmers
« on: 04 December, 2021, 09:22:34 am »
The wife has mentioned hand warmers and these came up on a Christmas bike gift lift I saw

https://hollandbikeshop.com/en-gb/bicycle-accessories/hand-warmers/wobs-hand-warmers-leopard-brake-lever-version/

Anyone used similar or got any feedback. They're to go on a flat barred trekking/town bike so gears and brakes are combined and in the standard position

I’ve got some similar ones and can’t praise them enough. If anything they can be too warm.

They work best with flat bars but I’ve used them with drops as well, but they were a bit fiddly

+1 for Hotpog, they are very good at keeping my hands warm. And quite reasonably priced.
Though seems they have been out of stock for a while, don't know if they are still making them?

Also Bar Mitts. They are in USA, not sure if they have any UK distributor just now. So probably expensive postage. https://barmitts.com/

There's also a variety of cheap versions from Chinese brands, eg Rockbros. Can get them with free postage on Aliexpress. Or a bit more expensive on Amazon etc, but probably quicker delivery. https://www.amazon.co.uk/ROCKBROS-Handlebar-Mittens-Windproof-Cycling/dp/B07ZCGBX87/

I can't see the wife being chuffed with that

These things look a bit like oven gloves.

Hot Pogs are brilliant. https://www.hotpog.co.uk
Worth waiting for them to be in stock.
Made out of similar material to carradice saddlebags.
Most of the Canadian/USA ones are neoprene - that makes hands sweaty and then they freeze - avoid.
Made in Nottingham.
Plenty of room for hands, extra mitts if needed, gear and brake levers, flapjack, growing banannas...
Importantly, they keep your fingers together for mutual warmth, not in individual tubes like gloves.
I've used them for 5-6 hour rides in proper winter weather. Mine are the £60 version
The price is nothing compared with the money I have wasted on "winter" gloves.
Only for flat bar bikes. I tried another brand that were supposed to be OK for drops, but they made the bike uncontrollable because they are vertical and catch the wind. Really dangerous.

Trust me, I know about cold - we had no electric for 6 nights and days.  Neighbours still not back on power.
No investment in the infrastructure

Had an email back today from hot pog and they're not making till February so that's out as a Christmas present . It's odd that they're almost unsourcable here

Have found for scooters (as in small motorbike) so that's an option

Sorry just checked its mid Jan they're hoping for not February

I e-mailed yesterday evening,  but no answer yet.

Being a small company (I think), they have possibly been affected by covid?
Staff off or problems getting materials may have stopped production.
As I said earlier- worth waiting for.
Went for a post-Arwen test ride today - HotPogs will be fitted tomorrow.

I've now had the same reply.
So pleased they haven't gone out of business.
