Any forumites taking part on the Tour of East Lothian 106km audax on the 17th feb 2013?

I've got my entry in   :D, and it'll be my first ever audax   :o!

Thoroughly expecting to be dropped within the first 1km, as I'll be on my Dawes Horizon tourer.....   :P

I'm a doubtful, having had the lurgi for the past three months.  :'(
But don't worry about getting dropped: they set you off in groups (five or ten minutes apart), starting with old jakies like me first, gradually working through to the racing snakes on Colnagos*. A lot of local roadies treat it like a reliability trial (ie a race), and there tends to be a big field of about 200 riders.

Always a good feed at the finish though. Hope to see you on some events before too long.

* The entry form used to ask you to estimate your finish time so you could be allocated a start time: you did put a pessimistic estimate, didn't you?  ;)
It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

Putting my entry in early next week.  Bringing along a friend and work colleague for his first Audax.  Looking forward to it.

I think Brian is one of my fine Fife cycling chums. Dalgety Bay will soon overtake both Comrie and Musselburgh as the 'true home of Scottish audax'
Keep on keeping on.

im up for this,  will ride from EH12 to the event and home afterwards for a nice 140km all in,

Its the day when I leave my Edinburgh Road Club jersey at home, put on my audax ecosse jersey, fit mudguards, fill a HBFO saddlebag (*) and see how many so called roadies I can pass.

(*) with bubblewrap, of course  :demon: :demon: ;)

It's quite amusing seeing them walking up Redstone Rig.

As it's the easiest of the 4 audaxes starting from Musselburgh this year it'd be rude not to give it a go.
It didn't look at all like that in the photographs

??? This leads me to wonder whether perhaps somewhere in the west like, as a random example, Dumbarton is the true capital of audaxing in Scotland, with a full calendar of events that you're not telling us about, just to keep the eastern riff-raff away. Local events for local people?  ;)

I see you've fallen for the classic beginner's mistake of putting down a realistic finishing time for the ToEL. Most people seem add about an hour at least to their estimated times. I remember I put 4.5 to 5 hours down once and it was 14 roadies and me in the group. I did manage to sit on the back for about 5 minutes or so then never saw them again.

Bugger :(

It's not really that big a problem as most groups completely split apart on the climb up Carberry hill a few miles from the start. You then spend the rest of the day catching and dropping slower riders or having high speed groups shoot past you.

Spoke to Andy Laing at the Revolution on Saturday and he said he had 170 entries so far.  I am off at 10.10 and will no doubt get dropped as usual at Carberry. Have walked more miles than I have cycled this year behind Liz so that means at racing speeds of up to 5mph. Looking forward to this though. Just hope the weather's good.

I've also plumped for the 10:10 slot. It will be my first proper cycle this year, looking forward to it.  :)

Hi guys,
I have entered this event (it will be my first audax, really excited about it), and received the email asking about the start time, however I have not received any brevet card or route card back in the post, which I was expecting. Does anyone know if these are sent out closer to the event or whether I need to contact the organiser?

Looking forward to it and will see you guys on the day!
