Cateye LD110 vs LD610
« on: 30 November, 2009, 11:02:34 am »
With the planned arrival of a new bike I'm after a new rear light. I've relied on a LD1100 for years and had no problem but at nearly £30 I should hope note.

Is the newer LD610 any better? I know it's only got one row of LEDs and doesn't seem to have side-ways facing lights. It also runs on AAA rather AAs but it's £10 cheaper....
A shitter and a giggler.

The LD610's two outermost LEDs are wide-angle types that make you visible enough, IMO.  I don't feel the need for sideways facing lights.  AAA batteries give it a long enough run time if you use lithum, high-capacity NiMH or fresh alkalines.  It's bright.  I would only want an even brighter rear light if I regularly did a lot of dual-carriageways or fog.

The LD1100 can do blinking and steady at the same time.

I prefer the LD610 though - especially the new clear-lensed version.

IMO the Smart 1/2 watt is better than anything Cateye have made, and pretty cheap.  It's not one to use in a group ride though.
