A very convivial evening.   chief and Tomsk were already in residence when I got to The Compasses, despite me having shortened my route there slightly on account of flooding on Crabb's Hill blocking my access to TMNH.

I enjoyed the secret stash of Oscar Wilde, the Bishop Nick Heresy and the Potton Penny Bitter (there was a fourth ale available which I didn't sample).  I wasn't even aware that there was a brewery in Potton, but a bit of internet research reveals that they've been operating since 1997.  They also do a beer called "Village Bike" it seems.

We also consumed the obligatory rounds of wasabi peanuts and mini cheddars and at least two rounds of pickled eggs.

Anybody who wants to have a go at swaying my decision as to whose mantlepiece it will spend the next 12 months gracing, they should PM me before the Christmas do.

Some good news.  Flushed with the success of buying their post office and shop in 2002 and running both as community enterprises, the villagers of Toppesfield have now bought their village pub.  You can read all about it HERE.

I think we should go there sometime soon.

As it happens I am now back in the country.  I will check with the boss if I am free on Wednesday.

I think 8:30 might be a bit late for them, but will check with mrs_o.

Does anyone know what Carol is singing?

Thursday's no good for me. The Chris juniors will be in bed by 8.30 and Mrs C. has taken up tap dancing lessons on Thursdays

For once I'm not taking the pi55!  I think tap dancing is excellent and very clever!  As I may have mentioned before I've always fancied having a go at Morris dancing.

Hectic schedule means I'll be on my own tonight, if at all.
