I feel confused. I don't think the DTDO goes thru Sudbury, doesn't it go to Chateris?

We did indeed.  I was behind you and lost sight of your tail light as you climbed into the fog.  Nice.

I have completed my route planning and time estimations around the DTDO and onward to The Compasses and guesstimate my time of arrival to be 10pm for a pint or two before the last leg to home.
Hopefully one or two of you will be in The Compasses already  :D

By the way, I will have ridden about 254km from start at Broomfield to home via The Compasses - I submit my claim for longest MEMWNS ride to date  ::-)

Good luck with your ride Huggy, sadistic last quarter. Organiser's privilege applies.

Yes, the climb out of Sudbury is great fun!

The Compasses on Wednesday evening is a smashing plan.  Will anyone else be riding there from Witham?

It's entirely possible that I will be... I need to check with mrs_o first though - there were some rumours that she may be out that night.

As usual The Current Mrs R was up and out of the house uber early this morning so I amused myself devising a route to The Compasses.  As one might expect it has the odd wiggle and a bit of climbing thrown in for good measure.

Claud the Claud Butler still has his Winter Marathons fitted - just in case.

In other news, I have fettled The MEMWNS Little Book of Big Ideas kindly donated by that man Del.  If will bring it along if I remember.

Yet another big idea!

Oaky had one last week but I can't remember what it was.  Suffice to say I didn't have the book with me  ::-)

PS - I have also sharpened the pencil you donated

Possible Real Life Intervention ...

Not entirely sure when I will be able to set off from Witham tomorrow evening.  Worst case scenario I may not make it at all and will go for a spin on Thursday evening instead.  I will know more as tomorrow afternoon wears on.  Work  ::-)

That's not good - I was counting on you to tow me back to Witham!

Sorry old chap.  Some chump has inserted a London customer meeting into my diary that isn't due to finish until 1600hrs.  Knowing the customer (also a chump) it might overrun.

I will be on hand for towing duties if required.  I'll probably be wetting off from Witham around 7:00, although it might be a bit later if I'm needed to help lift a piano into a van...

Depending on when I can get away from the school do, get well wrapped up and trundle over [on M Winters?], probably after 9....

Good luck with your ride, Huggy. Get all the cursing of the organiser out of your system by the time you get to the Compasses  ;D

Weather and work permitting I shall be doing my weekly run from Shenfield and will pass by the pub on my way home. Probably 9.30ish.
Good luck to Huggy for tomorrow!

Thanks all for the luck wishes, I may need it!  I intend to be knocking on the organiser's door about 8:30 in the morning, ride around for a bit and get to The Compasses sometime between 9 and 10 in the evening.

I am reliably informed that our man is underway.  He should be at Tomsk's by now.  There are bits of blue sky breaking through the clouds so hopefully the thaw will continue and Huggy will enjoy ice free roads.

Seems like a good day for a long ride. Lucky bugger! As long as the snow stays away.
I have bike so work permitting will be at the Compasses for 9.30-10.00ish.

Does anyone know the state of Papermill Lock at the moment as will probably pass that way on the way home.

Ciao for now!

Our hero is at Saffron Walden Tesco and has paused for refueling.  He reports a headwind thus far which should be less of a problem as he turns eastwards.  Ice has not been an issue

Various combinations of sun, sleet and hail here in Witham ... I wonder how our intrepid hero is faring in  Suffolk?

Excellent.

I will be heading over to the compasses aiming for a 9:00 ish arrival time.  Which route I take will depend on when I manage to get away...
