In case you have missed the Velodrome trip reporting on the MEMWNS Miscellany thread there is a video of our efforts linked in this post.

The big question now is...Marathon Winters in all their crunchy unloveliness on Wednesday, or a venue accessible to all via gritted roads??

Here's the gritting map, I got blasted by two of them today... unfortunately, they weren't on the lane where I found the first section of ice.... that thing I was worried about on the velodrone of the wheels going from under me... well it was that! (but at low speed!)

After that I walked a few sections where it was a bit crazy!

^ That is indeed pretty grim...

The 'Blue Egg' was strangely quiet this morning - only 2 of us on the Flitch Bikes club run and about 6 from the 'Glendene'. Treated road alternatives advised - we did B roads via Braintree and Wethersfield.

According to BBC Weather Wednesday evening should be frost free so I plan on being out. How about The Cats?  Wally normally has a fire going.

I've not been to the Cats yet though I think I might have to be in That London the following day iirc...

*edit*
WX forcast presently showing fog though that will certainly change to either no fog or foggier I expect

The Cats is one of my favourite pubs. And we could do one of my famously loopy routes!

Cats

Actually a good ice-free return from there for me, once at Danbury.

I was disappointed in the lack of snow and ice this morning - off-road [Flitch Way, Lt Dunmow byway], such frozen mud as there was quickly turned to slop. Had to get the hose out to clean the bike - first time I've had to do that in ages  ::-) Nice enough to sit outside Rayne Station CafĂ© in the sun.

Assuming we do go for The Cats I offer the Witham peloton this FUN ROUTE.  If the general consensus is that we do something different I will happily follow a wheel as I probably won't have any more time to do routes and stuff before Wednesday.

Cats

Good luck to the Witham peloton on OD's odyssey, particularly if it's icy.

I will probably head there via TMNH and back via Maldon.

Will she be fully loaded though or just have 2 ankle clips on board  ::-)

And a snow plough at the front....

Several points:

1. If it's likely to be icy I shall be staying at home.  Currently the forecast says the temperature won't fall be low freezing until midnight but I'll be keeping an eye on the situation.  I don't like riding if there's a risk of ice, I've hurt myself badly before.

2. I won't be riding Penelope.  She will get a MEMWNS outing just for a laugh but not yet.

Where are the remaining 5  ???

As you mention the outlook for ice at present looks very slim  Will we be aiming to ride the whole route this time or bailing out as all did on the last 'wiggly' route you published? Aside from me of course  O:-)

Myself and OD both run the Lezyne macro drive duo and I also have an Exposure Link as well! (Former has a better battery life the latter is much brighter)

My Lezyne Macro Duo died a death shortly after the Epiphany Do, water ingress.  It's out of warranty so I'm not happy.

Road report from this morning's commute through Witham - Terling - Great Leighs - Rayne - Bardfield. Roads are mostly dry so even if it does freeze over the next couple of days there's not a lot to worry about. Just the usual spots in the dips where there's run off from the fields and that dip just after Terling where there is sometimes a stream running across the road. Will update tomorrow as it's supposed to be brass monkeys in the morning.
