Tomsk Towers, 8pm tomorrow, weather permitting - umbrellas may be needed but I can supply blankets, pint glasses ... I'll have to find the camping lamp if you all stay late. Let me know who's definitely coming - enough chairs and space for 6 of us though. I'll put AUK signs on the back gates up the alleyway to guide you to the bike parking at the top of the garden.

We'll need a wifi hotspot from an attendee and a loan of Soupy's laptop [Mrs T will be using hers], unless someone brings the whole kit -  if we want to Zoom.

I've added the carradice back on the bike, I think I gave circa 3 pint capacity in cans. See you tomorrow!

  Excellent!

One lucky person can be under the garden umbrella if needed. We could have an Improvise a Shelter from Everyday Household Items competition, a bit like Scrapheap Challenge.

Steve could lend you his new Tarp?

I could hang up my tarp somehow and also a groundsheet that could provide rain protection. We have a few umbrellas about the house too.

I was keeping quiet hoping everybody would say it is forecast to be too wet!

Quick reframing of my mindset, and this sounds like an excellent opportunity to test out some waterproof kit. I'll be there.

Given nobody is likely to be commuting, is it an earlier start than normal?

By the way, I've been reading OD's new book, 'the Book of the Bivvy'. In a perverse way it is making me want to have a decent crack at using the bivvy more seriously. I've got a few insightful quotes to share.

We'll be sat here tonight in top-to-toe waterproofs - it'll be just like a typical British Bank Holiday! I'll slip out for an hour's ride at 7 - if anyone arrives before 8, AUK signs will be out for you and the back will be unlocked. Park by the bike shed. Take a pew and crack open your beers  - bottle opener on the table!

It's a cracking read. Last night I learned about how to bivvy upright on a narrow ledge at height on the Matterhorn, roped on. Can't see me doing that anytime soon!

I'll graciously leave my seat in Tomsk's garden available for someone else to enjoy this evening.

Yes - I read this a couple of years ago (2018) it's not bad but can't remember most of it now - I think I came across it recommended by a chap on youtube.

I hope to make an appearance around 8 also...

I think Dunmow is the unicorn destination. According to the Met Office it'll still be slashing down in Colchester and Braintree.
I was looking forward to coming over , but I have a new nickname to live up to, " Softnuts". This precludes a 100km ride in continuous heavy rain, so regretfully I'll have to defer until another week.

Have fun.

Unfortunately I've been banned from, ahem, Shitham ( not my renaming obvs) for this evening, so I would have been riding from Colchester.

In these extraordinary times, all actual, real, human MEMWNS interaction is good, even if you arrive by car and not the traditional means. We miss you all ...  :'(
