Driving as J wants dinner out.  Bit embarrassing.

There are quite a few possibly unvisited in the Western area (that are still going):

Lion and Lamb, Little Canfield
Stag, Little Easton
Sun, Saffron Walden
Butchers Arms, North End

Maybe a few in Chelmsford?

I recall we've been maybe just the once, a long time ago to;
Bell, Panfield
Black Lion, High Roding
Vine, Bardfield

We've almost done the Black Lion a couple of times recently - ticks the boxes for Westerners I expect and a good alternative to Axe & Compasses - they've never been very communicative about what beer they have on, perhaps needs a forward expeditionary force to investigate...

The Black Lion is about 18 miles from Witham - too far for winter? Ok for Westerners ... any takers? Website promises a 'roaring fire'!

West-central-ish venues not visited lately:

Cross Keys - H. Peverel (never sat inside - two visits to their tent in lockdown I think!) or the White Notley one.

Queen's Head, Boreham.

I should be out this week. New tyres arriving tomorrow to replace the perforated ones I had to endure yesterday!

I'm planning on checking out the Black Lion tomorrow evening, subject to fog etc.

I quite like X-Keys HP... might tempt out the offshore members too...

X Keys and QH do not qualify as Eastern - not in winter.

According to the bar staff, currently Hadham Red, Pumphouse 19 Elms, Youngs London and by Wednesday probably something from Colchester brewery.  They change pretty much weekly though.

Fire has definitely been alight last couple of times I have been in.

I hadn't factored in the football being on tonight, so might not get over as planned (mostly because I was hoping to eat there)

I am visiting the parent tomorrow evening so not a-wheel.  If the western contingent end up at the Black Lion then I may try a car assisted late showing for a very swift pint as it’s so local.

I vote for the Black Lion as the Western venue, since our far North-Western member is going to be out. Probably a bit far west for even central folk - any other Westerners available?

I'll be digging out the folding bike for a test-run in preparation for Saturday, when a team car assisted return from the 'spoons is likely. Seems like the B.L. currently has a good selection of ales.

Black Lion in High Roding sounds good. If I’ve not fitted my new tyres then I may venture out on small wheels too … especially if BFC is tempted out, as have some topics to discuss  :)

OK - got ready to go out and I seem to have a flat Garmin  >:( just looked out an it's starting to fog too (though that may be my tired eyes )

I don't really fancy mixing it with the fans on the roads later, so looks like I'll be exploring the delights tomorrow evening with you at Black Lion without a preview tonight

What time are we aiming for?

Winter times = fewer-miles-more-beer (or an early night?) and seems to be settling on 20:00. I'll probably take an indirect route (north first then south, for the novelty of it), leaving Dunmow at 19:00.

Apologies for the silence last week. Too busy. Will try to make tomorrow night. New chain to fit when I get in from work I’ll let you know

Yep, 20:00 is good for me. That's my ETA.
