Any takers for this Wednesday?

Open to suggestions for venue -- I'm happy to revisit one of the regular haunts (Compasses @ Littley Green, for example).

I could be tempted. Maybe do a training style ride and meet you there?

I am without children and with bike so may be persuaded. You can join the hordes laughing at my tan.

Excellent.  Is it as funny as the "no entry" sunburn?   ;D

I'm thinking of starting in Chelmsford at 19:00 and taking a route something like this, dependent on a) my navigational abilities, b) my legs not falling off this time and c) whether any of the locals (chief etc.) can be persuaded to turn up and guide us around :)

Yes  though I need to chin wag with a builder when I get home tomorrow so unlikely I can make the pre-ride.  However,  I'll do my best to join you all for the sprint finish

Please feel free to comment on how handsome I look in my new and official....

Start time at Chelmsford is a bit early for me, so I'll devise a route ending up at the Compasses. It seems to be turning into my local; Mrs Tomsk and I are going on a date there to celebrate the redecorating of the twilight zone that is no. 2 son's room. [When we've finally finished the task!]

I'm a definite NO this week. I'm in a foul mood and that just leads (IME) to excessive drinking, a fair bit of sweariness and a stupid late night. Which is fun, but wont help me clear my work backlog. Certainly be out next week tho.

Shame  :'(

Looking on the bright side, at least it'll just be токамак riding me into a shaking wreck again this week.  It won't be him and a GURL turning me into jelly.  ;)

... now that would be a bad thing ... especially for the health of the cow-orker you ranted about.

I, alas, shall not be out next week -- I'll be relaxing in a cottage in North Norfolk, and fretting about my upcoming DIY.

Just got back @ 00:30.

A great night -- токамак, Andyf and I met at CHM.  токамак led us gently through the park and along rainsford rd to the chignall road, where he started to ride at a slightly less slow-for-him pace.  Andyf and I set off in pursuit of him and managed to (through his taking it easy) hang onto his wheel for much of the ride.

Thankfully, my pre-emptive intake of food, wine gums, sesame snaps and orange juice meant I didn't die this time, and, once we hit Howe St, I had an inkling that I could burst through from behind, put my head down and try and time trial to the Compasses ahead of токамак...  the sneaky-jump went well, but within about 10 seconds, on the approach to the first corner, I looked round and he'd already eaten most of my gap and was closing at an impressive rate and would catch me within ~100yds, rather then the mile or so to the pub.

Overall today (including my stoppy-starty 12mph 2.5 miles across Londontown) 31.6 miles @ 15.9mph.

Oh and we drank a bit of beer (started on the Blackwater Reggae, and moved onto the Woodforde's Wherry once that ran out).

A great turnout -- токамак, Andyf and myself from CHM, met up with chief and Tomsk at the Compasses and as a random bonus, Christophe happened to be passing just as we were arriving!

One last thing -- this thread is now almost (i.e. we're waiting for 08:08:22 tomorrow) exactly one year old!  I think the series has been great fun!  It's a shame OD isn't here to celebrate with us, but cycle-touring France trumps that, in any book!

I have a photo, give me a while...

...the sneaky-jump went well, but within about 10 seconds, on the approach to the first corner, I looked round and he'd already eaten most of my gap and was closing at an impressive rate and would catch me within ~100yds, rather then the mile or so to the pub.

 ::-) I was alert to the move, to paraphrase the great Ali - if you even dream about getting the jump on me you had better wake up and apologise. :P

It was a good evening for a ride and I think Oscar's dad would be proud that a year on from his original idea we stuck to the program and got the miles in at a reasonable clip, bypassing many pubs along the route, before stopping only once for a couple of beers and something to eat.
