More likely than not to be out this week, will have to see how far advanced OD's virtually transferred snot based infection has developed  :-\

Just for a change, I'm thinking of the following slightly different route out of Witham, with a little spur to get to The Cats.

EDIT: almost certainly the usual 7:15 start from the Jack and Jenny.

It looks like it might be just me from Witham tonight - huggy is still under the weather.  Anybody else going to be out?

Ok - in that case i have accepted another offer and will be off for a beer in Chelmsford instead.  I will probably ride the aforementioned route tomorrow night (albeit without a pub stop)

I could be up for a quick spin tomorrow night with perhaps a very brief pub stop (The Cats would be good).  I want to be home by 10pm at the latest.  What time would you be able to set off?

Sorry mr Mak - no could do!

Stats:-

2 yacfers (me'n'chief)
1.5 miles riding for the night (not counting walking)
0 ascents of North Hill (so I'm still on 21 out of 52)
~5 pubs
1 curry
1 seriously mad plan involving 500km

 ;D

8-ish?  I need to be home for kids bedtime than eat before leaving.  8 should be do-able though.  We can be home by 10 if we make the Cats stop brief.

Smashing, I'll wear a red rose and be carrying a copy of yesterday's Evening Standard so you'll know it's me. I suggest "pickled egg" would be a suitable password though I think secret handshakes might be going too far and just be silly.

PS - I shall be wearing shorts and am contemplating SPD sandels with socks.

And yes, I have had a beer already. Thanks to BT who are ... words fail me.  Suffice to say I am posting this via my BlackBerry cos we don't have broadband.

An usual event this evening - passing OD going the opposite way in Terling  :o
My excuse for appearing to be unsociable was that with a lurking chest bug I didn't think I'd keep up with Oaky & OD, especially going up NH (nothing unusual there thou), but even on my realatively flat route the legs did complain  :(
Anyway, what was OD doing out around Terling?  That sounds like a gratuitous route to head towards the Cats!!  :P

I have now broken my Square & Compasses virginity with a pint of Square & Compasses beer, a nice refresher before looping back to Witham

Met up with OD who mentioned passing you earlier. He'd been out and done 17 miles before I met up with him.  We did a variant of my route upthread and had a couple of Ale-pril Fool's and a pickled egg in The Cats.

We parted company at Spring Lane where I set off to add another 10 miles and an additional North Hill ascent by looping round part of my route again.  30.5 miles in total at 15.2 mph.

That takes me to 23 NH ascents now (11 on fixed).

just throwing this in.............

me and bruv are going to camp at the pub at Edwardstone in an anti Royal Wedding StanceTM  on 29th april.

Apparently there's a beer festival and a Ceilidh on that night, your presence would be comforting.

Anybody heard from our Tomsk lately?  I've just realised it's two weeks since he appeared on this thread.

Is he doing a DIY 5600km Audax to get some sneaky fixed wheel challenge points in the bag?

Re Thursday night, it was indeed very pleasant.  I did my usual trick on Wally The Cats' landlord ...

"Hello Wally, how are you ?!?"

[Wally looks puzzled as he thinks "Who the hell are you and how do you know my name?"]

Then he responds ...

"I'm very well, I didn't recognise you!"  (He doesn't know me from Adam but given he is older than God his confusion is more than tolerated and adds to his charm)  ;D

As I wasn't meeting Oaky until 8pm I did my classic Two Fords Run beforehand hence my being sighted in Terling.  Sorry I missed you Huggy!

Dear me, I forgot to post the bar snack photos I took (sorry).  Note how Wally has cut up the pickled egg and provided a cocktail stick and a plate.  It's all about presentation you know, I reckon he's been watching Master Chef ...

And now the wider angle shot ...

Ok, not a mid-week ride, but thought I'd make mention of a solo trip out to Abberton Reservoir on a very sunny Saturday afternoon

Quite a dry route with first pub passed being the Layer Fox at Layer de la Haye, next pub was the Queens Head at Tolleshunt D'arcy where a pint of Maldon Gold was enjoyed before pushing on for home.
41.8 miles (67.28Km) in a little under 3 hours rolling time and 4 hours total time......a nice training ride for a virgin 100Km Audax  :)

I certainly will be.  mrs_o will be off in Dorset with the Acorns so I might be setting off a bit earlier than normal with the intention of doing a longer one.

Any preferences for a destination?
