Prompted by a conversation with my wife, I was thinking on this subject.

The first 2 that came to mind were “Coast” and Jonathan Miller’s “The Body in Question”.

BBC 4 / iPlayer is pretty good for several that have been mentioned here. The Singing Detective is currently available. Our Friends in the North was there a few months back (OFitN was, in my recollection one of my all time favourites, and remains remarkable in its ambition, but I was surprised in my rewatching of it how dated it has become despite resonant themes of institutional corruption; compromise in the Labour Party and marginalisation).

It is also interesting to rewatch series that were groundbreaking at the time, but their influence now makes them appear somewhat formulaic - This Life for example.

I'd like to see the first series of Big Brother and Castaway 2000, just to see how far reality TV has morphed in the last couple of decades.

Been done a couple of times, it hasn’t really aged that well, although the characters are still good.

Riffing on BFTBS made me think of the original from Play For Today, which also had the first London’s Burning.

And yes to Green Wing. One of Julian Rhind-Tutt’s few visual roles, but what a role. Also good in The Hours which I wish had carried on. (That’s a different subject, but I was disgusted with the BBC for not recommissioning Giri/Haji).

I watched all of Secret Army about 18 months ago. Excellent stuff.

"Ultraviolet". Jack Davenport, Idris Elba & Susannah Harker chasing vampires in London. A shame they only made one series.

Unlike Fairly Secret Army, sadly, which started out well but ran out of ideas pretty quickly. A shame because it was a great premise. Notable for the Michael Nyman theme.

The Invisible Man (the Vincent Ventresca one)

And no, there's nothing especially educational or literary or whatever in there, but I do find something new to enjoy in them each time I watch, and I usually repeat watch things when I need to turn bits of my brain off.
