I was posting on Cyclechat as it started. I thought I'd finish posting before getting up to turn off (no remote on my telly). But after the first two snippets of self introduction, I threw the laptop aside and jumped up to turn off.

It is a light entertainment programme, where a bunch of young people enter in the full knowledge that they are putting themselves up for ridicule. Many of them willingly oblige by creating ridiculous and hateful personas.

My current theory is that the people who enjoy this programme the most have never had to work in an environment that nurtures this kind of self-important wankstain. A relative of mine for instance, who's only job since university is work for a quango promoting literature and giving grants to writers and poets - she loves it. It just reminds me of too many two-faced backstabbing lying chancers you see in Sales.
And the worrying thing is that some young kids see these people as role models. They follow Alan Sugar on twitter and before you know it, a generation comes out of 3rd rate ex-polytechnics with "degrees" in "business studies" and they're "risk managers" before they're 25. Heaven help us all.

Jim seems to have been found out. I couldn't believe Natasha got away with saying she had issues with the Everydog concept. Cheeky cow never said a word.
I hate them all - I just enjoy the spectacle of a parade of utterly vile people being humiliated. Ellie seemed to be a pleasant, hardworking, motivated, useful individual. No wonder she couldn't last.

My wife and I were certain that Vincent would lose when he was selected as PM and despaired when Glen repeatedly screwed it up.
Then, when Ellie got fired, I was certain it was for entertainment purposes that Vincent wasn't, but had to take that back shortly after.
I don't think it would have changed anything if Jim had been there. While the name was his idea, Vincent ran with it and refused listen to others and Jim still worked hard to get the task done as well as possible.

I think what saved Zoe was that she immediately accepted responsibility for losing the first 2 pitches...and then generously helped by Edna digging her own grave. It was very hard not to compare her 'MBA' comment with the Sandhurst idiot a season or two ago.
(Not to mention that Edna really ought to have lost the moble app task and gotten fired for it).
Susan, well, last time Zoe was a PM, Susan claimed she could sell huge amount of skincare products and failed to move even a fraction for that and had they lost, would probably have been sacked too.. I would have ignored her as too, had I been in Zoe's shoes.

It's interesting that Nick picked up the fact that Susan has some good thinking sometimes (like the possibility that they might pay to collect rubbish rather than necessarily getting paid), though she doesn't communicate well.

Well, they either film the episodes back to back and the thing doesn't take 12 weeks (or whatever the programme schedule is) or they have loads of time on their hands between episodes in that big house for chatting and shagging.

A lot of this is faked.....
The "Cafe" is a film prop, all the exits are filmed at the start and the projects are an awful lot more planned that it looks.
Even to the stage of filming the final twice with both candidates winning and losing as alternative endings. Both then work for Alan Sugar until the final decision and the release of the result.

I can't imagine Sugar would get that into someone's background unless he'd been working with them for a few months, and he'd only bother to correct someone if he thought it was important...

And it even had the strapline "out with the old … in with the new." Oh dear, oh dear. I've never seen Nick's face screwed up quite so much as last evening's episode.

You might be right afterall. Susan remains. Her business sense is actually quite decent, but gets ignored because the others haven't warmed to her. Then she gets bullied in the boardroom.
I'm glad my Zoe didn't get chucked out (though she wasn't very good, TBH).

A pet hate of mine is people saying "No, please....let me finish" and who spend all their time interrupting others.
Classic fail - Absolutely no negotiation with client (to the obvious surprise of the rest of his team).

Having said all that...12 hours from start to finish is a tough ask (although "HIP Replacement" only needed 5 seconds to reject the idea out of sight).

Melody should have gone - she's a nasty bit of work. She's the reason the team failed so badly. She lied about the outcome of the 'market research', she failed to research the main lead as she had been asked and she refused to share out the appointments.

He's been a spare part once too often. However appallingly arrogant and deceitful Melody was, she did at least sell some of those ridiculous teapots. And speaking French must have worked in her favour. She'll last until the interview stage, where she and Jim will be lambs to the slaughter. Can't wait.
Natasha got off very lightly this week - her pitch to La Redoute was abysmal. Tom let himself down but he was steamrollered by Melody so didn't stand a chance. He won't survive much longer. Then there's the horrible whiny one whose name I can't even remember. One of those three will go next week, assuming at least one of them is on the losing team.
For my money, the only two candidates with a serious chance of winning are Helen and Susan. And Helen looks very much like this year's Stella.

I agree...unfortunately, Tom let her get away with it. He made all the right comments, but failed to enforce them when faced with opposition. Melody played the game perfectly and ensured that she personally wouldn't lose. Would you really want a business partner like that?.

IMO they keep some in just for entertainment value, and what is more entertaining than conflict? Thus the loud ones are not necessarily winning material.
The sidekicks seem to have got a bit more input this year, during the tasks and also slightly more disposed to strong negative critiscism. With careful editting to throw us off the scent?

He could not actually do anything useful at all. He had not developed any valuable skill to any level. He talked a nonstop stream of buzzword bullshit and cliche.
Added to this he thought he was a celebrity with a media career - which frankly is probably the only thing he might be good for, if he could find some talent from somewhere.

One of the right two got fired. Helen has won so many now, she must get a free pass if and when she finally cocks up.
I predict Jim and Helen for the final although I have no idea who would win. Jim can do nothing but sell. Helen's main attributes are luck and inoffensiveness, and she's very similar to last year's winner.

Had the other team lost, then Natasha would have been gone, easily, as both Jim and Susie were awesome.

I actually watched the thing after the show last night. There was this girl on and she talked complete and utter nonsense. I think that must be this Melody then.
Astounding - I thought she was actually a bit insane in fact - some sort of delusional. The panel were very gentle with her.
I undertsand she claims to be running some sort of global enterprise/network/consulting business from her bedroom, with Al Gore and Nelson Mandela or something. Completely barking. She should be in care.

Jim is frighteningly good at selling tat but it's all he does, really. I'm not sure what talent Helen actually has -she's just very lucky and inoffensive. Tom would make a good apprentice because he is an innovator, even if he's very hit and miss.

At the earlier point in the show she was. I don't understand what she does either. But then again I used to work for a quango which nobody really knew what it was about but it just pootled along quite merrily :)

I watched it in iPlayer. Ruby took a series of shots at Melody - but I think she was too subtle and Melody was too thick to realise.
She really is awful. I think the gift from teh show was a classic - what's the bet she puts it on her CV?

I think Susan is in with a chance. She's run and set up her own company, Toms company was a consultancy. The other 2 have been employees, and the final is based on business plans and interviews.
Plus Susan went to the same college that returning judge Margaret left to go back to, so I'm counting on a UCL secret stitch up.

It's not like the previous shows with a job vacancy. Given the success of the Susan/Tom combo I think both should be winners.
Oh, and Columbus should be given posthumous British citizenship and given recognition for having invented the potato before Sir Walter Raleigh. Payback for being the first tobacco pusher.

Pairing Helen and Tom sealed their fate as last night's winners. Two level-headed people who just get on with the job in hand. Could have slapped both of them over the Columbus thing though ::-).
I think all of the candidates are strong and deserve to win. Oh, except Jim who will be crucified in the interviews. I'd like to see Tom win as it will be a refreshing change after all the sales and admin types that have gone before.

Actually I wasn't sure where Caracas was but I'm damn sure I'd have checked before using the name. At least I knew it was a place rather than just a meaningless word (that sounded a bit like Maracas) though.

I don't have a problem with them ripping off another restaurant's idea really, they only have 24 hours to do something, it's hard to come up with something new in that area (and I've never heard of Square Pie myself..living in the sticks as I do. I still think Greggs is appropriate for a Wedding or Anniversary treat).

I agree with your comment about originality. It's hard to do this under normal conditions so you can't blame them for doing what they did in only 24 hours or so.

Jim screwed up, but then he also saved Natasha's arse last week (and Natasha has been mostly useless the last 4-5 weeks), so I think it was the right choice. Susan did relatively well and *is* slowly maturing.
Tom is brilliant. He thinks of the details, he does the numbers AND he's very creative. While Helen is very organized, I haven't seen any real ability to create, at least not in comparison to Tom.
Next week should be fun :)

Helen's business plan didn't become bad over 12 weeks, it was a bad plan in week #1.
Helen would have won the show using the old format (looking for an assistant rather than a business venture) but she was obviously doomed from the start.

She forgot the first rule. No matter for whom you work, you only really work for yourself. There's no loyalty given or received these days. Of course Sugar is going to cut them all loose after a year unless they turn out to be shit-hot; you don't pay £100,000 for a project manager unless they are a specialist in that discipline and with a cast-iron track record in rescuing failed projects. For an all-rounder in that role, it's silly money.
