Dahon Speed Pro TT 2007 Brakes

Hi All,

Well, I bought the Dahon Speed Pro TT at the beginning of the year and had much fun, they drive very very fast and practically they replaced my Road Bike, even for some training sessions.

BUT (a big BUT) the brakes are extremely weak. Many technicians try to work it out but all came to the conclusion that thats it! The bike just have bad brakes.
Some blamed the cables and some said that the long-reach style just can't produce enough power...

Important thing, I live in Israel and they dont sell these bike here (only the basic dahon models), so there aren't any Dahon specialist around.

Please please, can any advice me of what should be done

I'm glad you are happy with it, I too didn't like the brake pads and got some Koolstops for it.

Since I never folds mine up and will only do it when I take it aboard. I'm thinking about cutting down the length of the brake cables to hopefully gain some more power, since the cables are moving around a lot when using them.

but you really think that changing the pads will do the work?
I can tell you that as for the rear brakes, I manage to press the handler all the way and even then the wheel is far from being locked..   

Unfortunately for me, I fold then all the time.. so cutting the cable is not an option. Too bad they didn't put V-Brakes, that will probably solve the issue.

Better quality cables would probably help. Look for cable outers where the outer wire is made of wires concentric to the core, rather than a spiral.

If you are getting the levers all the way to the bars, the brakes aren't adjusted correctly.

Long-reach dual-pivot calipers can be very powerful; I have them on my bike. I much prefer them to V-brakes.

never noticed any problem with brakes on my Speed Pro (not TT - flat bars) - only problem I ever had with brakes was linked to suspension hub which I ditched.
