What's on your list..?

Ours probably:

Good very mature cheddar
Decent brie
Applewood or Port Salut
Some exotic wensleydale

No blue cheese I'm afraid...

unless anyone could recommend a good 'starter' cheese?

A good Stilton, some strong cheddar and some brie. I'm off to the deli on Saturday.

The last Colston Bassett stilton I had wasn't actually that strong. It was quite creamy.

No blue ? shame

The Volio household consumes vast quantities of port & stilton at Christmas

I've bought a couple of small stiltons well in advance cos it is very had to find decently ripe cheese

I usually pick more up dead cheap on its BB date in the new year

oh and some Reblochon for the non-blue fans

Maybe Stinking Bishop as its localish, and Y Fenni - which is more so.

We have our office Christmas meal in January to avoid the crowds, so we are having a buffet tomorrow. Everyone is bringing something in.

I'm taking Cashel Blue, Blacksticks Blue, Applewoods Smoked Cheddar and some Welsh Saval. I've also got some Cheshire Pastrami , Couscous with roasted veg and Tabbouleh.

Only problem is we are not allowed alcohol on the premises, so no wine

Agreed, think it was from Waitrose and was quite inexpensive.
Always try Dolcelatte as a starter blue, maybe Peachcroft farm have some?

I find Dolcelatte a bit sickly...

I've got some Colston Bassett organic Stilton, and some Long Cawson. It'll be interesting to compare them.

Y Fenni or another Welsh cheese (my girlfriend's Mum is Welsh)
Lancashire creamy (no jokes, please!)
A decent Brie or Camembert.

Port.
Crackers.
French bread.
Yum.

From Hawes creamery i hope? The plain wenslydale is fantastic with fruit cake. Never heard of this til I moved to Yorkshire - can't beat it though.

Crackers - various assorted, fruit cake, bread from R4 Food Programme award winning bakery. If there is any left, I might even cook with cheese as well.
And a nice fat waist........

Interesting to see what you think of the 2 cheeses. about 3-4 years ago I was involved with Stilton Cheese and was involved in a project at Long Clawson and another maker. Stilton is a very variable product even from the same creamery. The science of it's manufacture is very poorly understood and rarely studied, not surprising as there are only 6 creameries making the world's supply. The microbial ecology and chemistry is extremely complex... and very interesting! Fascinating times.

Well...it's one of those guilty pleasures. Not for me, but it's traditional in Yorkshire to have cheese (Wensleydale, of course) on fruit cake, which is much the same idea.

There used to be a cheese with fruitcake in it a few years ago.

Plain Wensleydale - as has been pointed out you can't have Christmas cake without it.

A hard French cheese of some sort
Maybe a goats cheese I will see what the cheese emporium has to offer.
