Essex win by an innings and 96 runs. Only 9 Kent batsmen turned out in the second innings. Agar was missing, presumed injured.

You presume correctly.  Kent have a set of bowlers with the performance of a Fiat and the reliability of a Ferrari at the moment.  I think we have 4 first team bowlers out.

Essex v Durham

Bosch has taken the two Durham wickets to fall, bringing Bedingham to the crease for Durham.  The English county battle for the soul of South African cricket continues!

A monster day for Durham. They will pick up all the batting points, Essex just one bowling point I think. Is this the day that won the title for Surrey? ;)

Ha! Essex took all Durham's remaining wickets this morning! 587 all out. Essex 10 - 0 at lunch, so only another 428 needed to avoid the follow-on.

Yes, I felt that was a good effort; I was hoping Durham were good for a thousand.  Lancashire going well, having taken the lead for the loss of one wicket, only.  That was the captain Jennings (from South Africa) bowled for 0 by Swanepoel (from, yes, you've guessed!).  Both Lancashire's centurions are English and half of them are actually from Lancashire!

Edit:  Essex making a fight of it - good show!

I'm rather surprised Durham didn't enforce the follow-on. They are still massive favourites, of course, but Essex managed a huge (<300) 4th innings total against Warks. On that basis, if Essex skittled Durham tonight they might be in with an outside chance tomorrow.

I was surprised about the follow-on, too.  It's still delicately poised, or was last time I looked!

It looks as though Essex have achieved their objective (not losing) with a batting display of such scintillating dullness that they have lost only one wicket all day. Bravo!

Happy birthday, Wow!  A present from South Africa for you and a staunch, if dull response from Essex.

According to the Graun's report, the Durham players were a bit miffed at Essex's lack of ambition in trying to score a mountain of runs on the last day. I thought that it was an absolutely first-class rearguard action. If Essex had had one more session...

Even as a Durham supporter, i think that's like a boxer complaining that his opponent kept defending himself.  Well played, Essex (damn you!)

Surrey 61-2. Quiet going. Both wickets taken by S. Africa (E. Bosch).

News from the Oval is that Essex are down to 10 men. Jordan Cox, a damned good batsman, has had emergency appendix surgery and of course will take no further part in the match. No replacements allowed because it isn't a head injury.

GWS, Jordan Cox.

Edit: Surrey 262 all out. Essex have just started batting.

That remains to be seen. It's looking as though Worcestershire are going to have to produce the highest-scoring innings of the match in order to win. That will be tough going.

Essex are 92-3, 170 behind.

Not looking great for Essex. Still 116 behind with 6 (in effect, 7) wickets down.

Nothing seems to have happened for hours. I assume it's been rained off.

Looks like it.  Forecast suggests the odd dry spell over the last two days but I suppose play would depend on the safety of the pitch.   Your game seems to be on just at the minute.

It seems that the BBC have changed their presentation of cricket matches. The Surrey v Essex page has descended into monotone, the Durham game likewise. I think that's code for "It's raining". I wish they'd just put on the page somewhere "Match delayed - rain" rather than relying on some sort of unintuitive code. I've always been a great believer of explaining stuff in words.
