Phone screen spudging and laminating

I've always replaced phone screens as complete assemblies, and have never dealt with the adhesives used to hold the various laminations together etc.
Today, Mrs F had a Garmin screen detach itself from the case:

The front fell off by Ron Lowe, on Flickr

It's been visible for some time from the outside that this was happening.
It looks like some kind of adhesive gasket in the case that's come unstuck.

Question is: how best to re-stick it?
Is there a common sticky stuff that is used for this purpose?

I can remove the failed un-sticky stuff I expect, but not sure what to replace it with.
Is looks from the photo to be a thin foam double-sided adhesive stuff. Obviously, it's a primary water seal too, keeping rain from the screen out of the gubbins.

Some sort of double-sided tape, maybe?

Well, yes, but that would be in four un-connected strips and the joins would provide leak paths. I think I want a single sheet of something I can cut.

Thin bead of silicone or CT1?

(I've used foam d/s tape for other purposes before, and think it was on a wide enough roll that you could cut a single gasket, but not sure it would be waterproof.)

You can buy bits of custom cut double sided tape gasket like they used at the factory:

ETA: The screen likely detached because the battery went spicy pillow and pushed it out, not because the glue failed. Replace that too.
