Racing back home yesterday, I came across a very odd sign, near Tring. It's on a perfectly ordinary road -

but when you get closer, you can see the police have their very own reserved lay-by!

I can't see why. There's no donut concession nearby, no hordes of hoodie clad hooligans hanging around. Very strange.

There's 2 or 3 of these around Stratford-upon-Avon ... they're for the Camera Gestapo to park up the white van with the window in the back door and catch the errant motorists (there's probably some white paint marks on the road within line of sight for the camera settings)

If there are no speed camera markings nearby, it could be a standby point for incidents at a nearby location?
