Stop!

I've already committed to doing a 600 RRTY so if anyone fancies a first one from Linlithgow to Campbeltown via Aberfeldy. I'm setting of at 7am this Sat the 13th Nov from the Cross or a wee bit earlier if I can get out of my bed in time. I'm not planning to stop for a sleep but may tak a bivvy bag just in case or stop in a hotel if the plan falls apart. Weather looks not too bad. Route has been OK'd by Eck but have still to send entry form.

I'm amazed that this thread has gone on for another page without anyone stopping to point out just how completely barking mad Bodach has become. If I'd say he's the new McNasty, except of course that we've still got the old one.

Carry On.

Yes totally barking.

Woof Woof!  I used to think I was mad : now I revel in my own uniqueness.
Perhaps I will become a second McNasty once I have ridden the 24hr TT on the tandem with him next year.
2011 may well be my biggest Audax year as liz is likely to step down from her present role which entails a seven day working week at the moment. Once this happens I will be required to go hillwalking a lot more to finish off my second round of the Munroes. I will still ride Audaxes but will not have quite the freedom I have now. I just wish I had taken them up earlier.

Barking?  I think you mean he's a soft lad.  A bivvy bag? next you'll be telling me that your going to be wearing longs and a jacket and doing stuff like eating.

PS I'm up for trying a double Snow Roads in December :P

Double Snow Roads! You'r on. I will be wearing longs, my heated baffies, my virgin rainlegs, waterproof hat and a pair of waterproof troosers just in case. No heated gloves tho'. I'm not a complete wimp. Liz is also taking me oot for a posh nosh to Champany's tonicht just in case I don't make it back.

Jim,
The short answer is upto about 42 hours (or 40 for some events, not this one). Of course many riders do it much quicker, but under 30hrs is unusual.

The more thorough answer is here:

AUDAX Max and Min speed

(along with lots of other fun facts ;) )

Cheers for that Matt, i've done 2x100's and a 160 this year, the next obvious target is an early season 200 if i can find one, then i 'll decide if i could attempt the Snow Roads.

I don't think AUK rules actually prevent anyone combining these two pastimes. Have you read about DIY-by-GPS yet?

Thanks for the helpful comments on this.

For 2011 at least I'll keep this as a DIY option, which means I can ride when I want (from the Fort if a pre 7am start is required) and at short notice.

Ive 4 events on in 2011 as well, so dont want to hog the calendar.

er... has anyone heard from Bodach yet? Did he survive the 600? Looked like a pretty fierce headwind for the run down to Campbeltown.

Gullane to Edinburgh was hard enough on Saturday morning, and that was in a group.  Heaven knows what riding to Campbeltown would have been like.

Im assuming that there was an outbreak of common sense in the Champany after a few glasses of Chateau Musar or suchlike and that bodach spent the weekend not doing a 600.

Unless somebody knows better.

Double Snow Roads in December?   ;D ;D  You pair are totally off your chump.

Snow Roads + Tayside Transgression can be manipulated to get a 600km without too much bother.  More variety than 2xSnow Roads (especially if you stick in a sneaky visit to Aberfeldy-Amulree-Glen Quaich-Kenmore-Ben Lawers visitor centre-Bridge of Balgie).  Only saying...

That's a shame. There's no real point in anyone travelling from afar now; with a calendar event you kind of know there will be a fair few starters even before you make travel/accom plans.

Maybe 2012?

Pitlochry  would be a good starting point easy to get to and go round the snow roads first in a
clockwise. direction for a change .   Figure of eight route for some gear left in cars if needed perfect.
