Now officially endorsed by The AAA Man as "silly".
What.
An unofficial challenge for those who like their audax rides long and hilly and to promote the riding of AUK AAA perms and calendar events.
Why
To stop Aunt Maud griping about the AUK AAA champs (thank you Rabbit)
Temporary glory goes to the one who gains the most AAA points in the season based on the rules below. Other than that, it ain't worth fudge.
Rules
Ride list must include a full AAA SR series ridden in the current AUK season.
Gold Standard Grimpeur AUK perms and calendar events qualify.
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/audaxaltitudeaward/grimpeurmedals.html
ACP Super Randonnées qualify for 10 Reel Gourd AAA points.
No more than 2 repeats of the same perm.
Full AAA SR's count double (name your own SR from your results).
200km minimum distance.
Update your own results.
Fab Prizes
The right to bask in temporary and meaningless glory.

A free entry for a non expenses paid trip for one to John O' Groats from Lands End, courtesy of Aunt Maud.

And a winners badge.
There may be something else, but don't count on it.

I'll kick the ball then.

Not going to play this one. Because it focusses on getting the most points, which is pointless.
(I am pulling together a set of ideas that focus more on there being a set of rides that need to be done to get an award. Kind of like an AAA version of the RRTY or GdS, where it doesn't matter how much you do, more what you do and when).
-
:'(
Go on, I thought it'd be up your street.

So do you subscribe to the view that championships are also pointless?
-
Yes. Pretty much.
Particularly those where I come second :)

It's not where my mind is at the moment. I might participate, but not play, if that makes sense.

Now with a proper prize.

I'm another in the "anti-champs" camp - but that prize has made me smile!
(could I trade it in for 20 x50km rides? ;) )
-
I will add in a further prize, in the spirit of things, free entries to both the Cambrian 8A and Cambrian 10A ;D ;D

I toyed with the idea of a Perm AAA SR (200/300/400/600) with the minimum number of points, which was a grand total of 7.5, which is less than some 600 calendar AAA events. The minimum number of points for a calendar AAA SR is 8.5 for current 'season'. Mixing permanent with calendar would result in 7.0 points. But, SR achieved by 4 x 600 Perms (same event) gives the princely sum of 6 points.
The maximum for traditional SR for perms is 26.5, or 26.25 for calendar events, while 4 x 600 perms would give 38 and 4 x 600 calendar events gives 33.
Of course you could go for 4 x Cambrian 10A or West Coast and accrue 72 points.
Quite a difference, and an AAA SR for 6 points is an interesting option!

Christ, I'm definitely not playing to win in that case ;D

Fantastic CET, what a truly
horrific smashing set of prizes.
This could backfire quite badly on me though.
-
Meh
If there isn't a badge then I'm not playing. Especially if I have to drive all over the UK to ride bluddy perms/events.

I'll make you a special hand crafted, limited edition, exclusive, numbered metal badge if you win. It's on the bench as I type.

You can say that Aunt Maud's Reel Gourd Standard AAA Audax Challenge has the best prizes.
Just a little lacking in athletic challenger types.
