Taco Van der Hoorn is not the first cyclist named after a fast food ingredient to win a Giro stage. We have Iban Mayo, Bo Hamburger and of course, Mario ‘Chip’ollini (though chipollini means small onions in Italian, so that counts too!). Unfortunately, Tom Boonen (=Beans) only rode one Giro, didn’t finish it and never won a stage.

(Thanks to Cillian Kelly’s Twitter feed for that)

it was a great effort yesterday, although i thought he went too early, but that shows what I know.  Not only is there Quest, but also Quest +1 for the non-Sky viewers.

I also had a look at the Giro website hoping to get more information on the route.  How on earth, in this day and age, do you come up with a website that bad?

Hmmm, tonight Quest showed.... stage 1  ::-). I’ve not got time to retune to see if +1 gets it right!!  >:(

The Giro is being shown live on S4C and BBC iplayer with Welsh commentary. Recordings of the final hour or two, plus highlights, are available on BBC iplayer, again with Welsh commentary. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/p077p6zd/seiclo-y-giro-ditalia

Quest have excelled themselves tonight, by reshowing the highlights of day 1. 😠
Clever enough to know I'm not clever enough.

So, for those of us who can't find out anything about the world's third most important bike race, what's happening?!

Some men are riding bikes quite quickly... In Italy apparently.

Shame it was past my bedtime (the update to the service) so I didn't get to set the recorder  :(.

Could be worse.  ISTR TV's Nice C Boardman getting run over by his own team car after crashing during a very wet prologue.

Yebbut Nice C had already dumped himself on the deck. This was more like the Johnny Hoogerland accident.

I really hope that Matej Mohoric is OK but was a bit surprised that the Daily Mail felt the need to explain to its readers which of these four riders was suffering a sickening crash

It's good to see that the concussion protocol is being used properly.

I hope he's OK. It's an impressive crash.

Carbon frames are a bit snappy, it seems, unless he was riding a Brompton 700c prototype.
