Knoydart community set to buy their 'local'

That will keep son number 2 happy. He's been living/working there for 2 years. His comments are that a number of locals would rather have alcohol sent over from Mallaig Co-op and then socialise/drink together in a local hut than use the pub. Still a chance that a private investor offers more but a step closer.

Do they still have photos of middle-aged housewives on beer cans up there?

Not beer, 'lager'.
It is simpler than it looks.

The best bivi spot in Scotland for us, walked thro from the Dark mile, Glen Pean, Barisdale and over to catch boat to Mallaig. A meal and a few beers then a night biving in front of the Inn,lovely views a d the dolphins playing in the bay.

My lad went for 4 month work placement for his forestry management degree. Left me his car to look after. 2 years later he's asking me to sell it because he doesn't know when (or if he ever wants to) he'll leave :)

Not beer, 'lager'.

Only on Sweetheart Stout these days.

Also JP is a colossal bell end.
He locked me in and everyone else out on a Sunday lunch time because he couldn't be arsed serving anyone, I got kicked out the fire escape for asking to be let out.
He threw a tantrum because one of my mates asked for a menu.

The locals built a hut across the road from the pub to drink in, didn't seem to bother JP because he didn't want anyone that hadn't popped off a yacht in anyway.

Yes, apart from being a bell end his prices also keep locals away, they're glad he's going.

I see JP's surname is Robinet.
Nominative determinism or what?

Fifeing Eejit? I haven't made it out to visit my son yet due to Covid and other circumstances.

One photo album "Knoydart and the Budget Harry Potter Express" says May 2016
It was a former member of this parish whot called the train from Crianlarich that.

We were trying to get food at the ungodly hour of 7pm

And May 2018 when I went up to ride a loop planned for a mates MTB routes book that got lost in a legal wrangle between publisher and printer

The problem today is all the good out of the way places are never the same after Facebook and Instagram latch onto them. Hillwalking in the late eighties no riff-raff then. 😂If you hear about it on the net you have missed the best times. Old saying once something becomes a go to its over. One example was the Gatliff trust hostals, we used to go up for winter tours, most times we were the only ones. Then everyone was going up for Xmas and New year especially Berneray, game over and it was somewhere new for us.

Having heard about the place from friends who were in DURC back when I was at uni (this coincided up with a period of lack of interest in hillwalking) and also back before JP bought it, it seems the rot is very much down to JP and not the "double denim" crew.

They succeeded - my son now has a few shares in his local (and I own a couple through proxy ;) )

Knoydart community owns Britain's remotest mainland pub

Yes, there was a bit of a cheer on my hiking clubs whatsapp group when we saw that.
