I was hooked as as student but got a little let down as each series was released.

The remakes [digital remastered or whatever they  did] I felt did nothing for it and much preferred the early series.

I keep meaning to get a DVD edition so I can dump about 1 metre of videos but as soon as they bring out a definite boxed set another one is announced.

Still, it has to be said that Red Dwarf quotes feature heavily in the Jellied household.

The question is, do we want to turn him back.
It's Rimmer's mind out there, expect sickness.
Excuse me sir, i think my intelligence circuits have melted.

Hmm.  Not sure about digging up our favourite old friends.  We might find they have decomposed a bit, smell, and are rather less fun than they used to be :-\

Hmmm. A while back I bought up to series 5 on DVD (in my mind it went seriously downhill after that) and it was amusing looking back - but sometimes these things are best left in the memory. I don't think it aged as well as, say, Blackadder II & III.

I'll probably look out for this, and get that same Star Wars Episode One disappointment, then watch the second part and get the Star Wars Episode II disappointment as well...

Funny how things go.  Red Dwarf was one of the first shows I worked on, and these days I regularly work on Coro St, where Craig Charles is part of the current cast.

How much is a Series 1, Episode 1 "The End" script worth these days, I wonder?

Red Dwarf jumped the shark after series 6, IMHO.

I always preferred Chris Barrie in 'The Brittas Empire' which also had a good ensemble cast with believable women and a credible gay couple, I especially liked Pippa Haywood as Mrs. Brittas, a role she partially reprised in 'Green Wing'.

Red Dwarf peaked around series 4/5 I think.  After series 5 they started to wring the feck out of it and series 8 was just horrible.  "Last of the Summer Wine" should be a warning to all comedy writers.

It's the old, old story - droid meets droid, droid becomes chameleon, droid loses chameleon, chameleon turns into blob, droid gets blob back again. Blob meets blob, blob goes off with blob and droid loses blob, chameleon and droid

How many times have we seen that story?

Episode 1 of Starwars?

Thats TPM!

It never happened, the speaking aloud of even just its name is forbidden...on pain of death.

Anyhoo...moving on.

I have my doubts about the return of the Boys From The Dwarf unless they really pull out the stops on the story telling and not just the gags. They lost the plot in the last series good and proper.

At this relative remoteness in time, anything could happen with this special.  It could be really good, it could be pants, so many things are likely to have changed that I suspect it's anyone's guess how well this will come out.

I guess we will have to wait and see, although this may force me to actually get around to mounting my new tv aerial!
Actually, it is rocket science.

I think they nuked the fridge when they brought back Ace Rimmer.

I assume you mean Cleese,
I reckon the overlap between 'Last of' viewers and People's Friend readers is enormous.
The Northern equivalent of Fawlty Towers is 'I didn't know you cared'. not many made, great cast.

Episode 1 of Star Wars is entitled 'Star Wars'.

Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace (for which Lucas should have his heart cut out with a spoon)
Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones (ditto)
Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith (ditto x2)
Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope
Star Wars Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars Episode 6: Return of the Jedi

Wrong.

Episode 1 = Star Wars
Episode 2 = The Empire Strikes Back
Episode 3 = The Return of the Jedi.

No other films exist (and especially no Christmas Specials ::-) ).  And those last two are a bit shaky...

Mr Lucas never got around to making his 3 much dreamed of pre-quel films.
