Could be the 22nd 2 Day Test match ever, out of over 2,400 matches.

Not quite over by lunch, but it won't take many overs after it.

Surprised the % of 2-day test matches is as high as it is.

If this were a county game, the hosts would be fined for a sub-standard pitch.

Brilliant - but I think it may be time to stop thinking of him as an all-rounder.

Dan Lawrence is probably the only English player in the current test match to have enhanced his reputation. I watched him a few weeks ago in an Essex match and he looked impressive. A pity he ran out of partners else he might have scored his maiden test century.

I know it's only a flash in the pan but Sibley and Burns did the job.  I don't think England often get to 60-0.

Lunch – England 67 for 0
An excellent session for England, the first time since 2011 that their openers have batted through the first session of a home Test.

Seems that the node score in this game is going to be 80 ish (have I got "node" right?) - and that will include dropped catches.  I imagine Young was a bit taken aback.  Not many batsman are dismissed by a windmill.

According to the TMS mob, it also equals the record for the number of player out (or the not-out batsman) in the 80s.

Mind you, two of the commentators also used the word "midrift" to describe the portion of anatomy to which the fielder clutched a hard-hit shot as he took a catch.

What would John Arlott have said?

Thanks, Hatler - i was right to doubt it!  This test match is a node - where all the scores of 80 meet!

This is not looking good - Root's only been in for three balls and he's already got 0........

ECB will want this wrapping up quickly: the more runs the tailenders get, the more useless the "batsmen" appear.

find it mildly irritating that members of the crowd stand up and indicate 4 runs in the manner of an umpire. I find it more so that the editor chooses to show them being morons.

We didn't last that long this morning. 1st ball of the day ends our innings.

If NZ get 38 runs before 12:00 within 15 overs for the day, everyone gets their money back today, I think...
