1I'd be interested to know what anyone who has never seen the original stage version thinks of this film.
Just quoting here to remind me to share my pearls of wisdom.

do we need more gritty Bourne-style adventures where Daniel Craig wanders around looking intense and trying to find his personality.

I can handle it so long as his doesn't decide he's Roger Moore!

Manhunter...Synth soundtrack dates it instantly. 60s acid rock (where was the lava lamp?) during the climax assures it cult allure...

Actually 80's Shriekback post-punk funky shit for quite a bit of it.  Grab a copy of Oil and Gold.  The 60's stuff was Iron Butterfly.

Yes, I saw mention on the credits. In a gadda davida baby. Plus Red 7 - Mike Rutherford google informs me. Which is coincidental as I thought for a terrifying moment that it was Phil Collins  during the closing credits :o

Dream House - twaddle.

Dull for an hour then a wtf moment flirted with interest before descending into complete piffle. A waste of a cast (Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts, Rachel Weisz)

I've never been able to settle on a favourite Discworld character.  Death, or Lord Vetinari?  But having watched Hogfather, I think I'm in love with Susan.   :-*

Well duh...
Absolutely! I fell for her in 'Soul Music'. Classic cheesecake publicity shot where the publicity picture has her...testing the stretchiness of her skirt.

Burnt.

A succulent visual composition of delight.  A U.S. take on Fawlty Towers without the laughs.  Quite good.

It's completely bombed at the box office, along with Sandra Bullock's political satire.

I can live with that.  It's not unreasonable.

I watched The Drop.  They won't all live happily ever after, that's for sure.

Minions.

They make better side-kicks than they do lead roles, just sayin'.

Spectre.

It was cracking good fun.

Yes we enjoyed it.

However I'm pretty sure that the sunrise scene was actually a clip of the sun setting.  It lasts just long enough to detect that sinking feeling. That's quite cunning really as it means they didn't get up at some stupid hour to get all their stuff ready.   They could have had a longer clip and run it backwards but then they'd had to reverse the train.  Maybe the smoke would have gone the wrong way?

I don't think I can even remember that.  Was it where the sun was coming up over the North African desert with the mountains in the distance?  Because I really liked that bit.

The Red Shoes on Sunday on the telly. Can't beat a Powell and Pressburger.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

It reminded me of this picture of Josie Dew I found today.

Yes it was a good scene.  I paid special attention to the sun because I remember watching sunsets in Equatorial Kenya.  It sinks very fast in those latitudes.  Daylight one minute, then you need a torch.

There's to be a remake of Momento - one of my favourite ever films.  :-\

Spectre. With the family.
It was OK, but I just got fed up with every other shot looking like a cover from GQ.

Also rapey - weirdly rapey.

Touching The Void.

Again.

A documentary about events in 1985, when Joe Simpson and Simon Yates made the first ascent of Siula Grande, and Joe had a terrible accident on the way down the mountain.  Simon made a heroic, mad attempt to rescue Joe but in the end Joe was suspended by a rope, and Simon had to cut the rope and leave Joe for dead on the mountain.

I never get tired of this film.  It's a harrowing testament to the power of human will, and the hunger for life.  It's one of the most inspiring things I've ever seen.  Good use of music, too.  Good extras on the DVD.

Charlotte Gray

Cate Blanchett is an SOE courier dropped into Vichy France.

Rupert Penry Jones isn't.

Michael Gambon isn't Dumbledor.

A several of others appear.

A good film IMHO.

Back in the day when I was a beat bobby, I used to pop into a local community centre during crumblies lunch club. One of the ladies there who was very quiet and distant but would chat occasionally, was an ex SOE agent and spent time in France.

Argh no I'm not seeing it til Monday D:

(I've read the books, but… I remember how taken aback I was by the beautiful song in the last film, if anyone had told me to expect that then I'd have been devastated. So, with that in mind: pleeeeease no spoilers!)
