2nd hand price for 2010 Kinesis TK2
« on: 03 April, 2021, 02:04:50 pm »
Good afternoon all,

I recognise this is not a question with a straight answer, but I am looking to understand where I should be pitching the price to sell my Kinesis TK2 from 2010. It has relatively low mileage, and is in top class condition. As you would expect for a bike of this age, there are a few small scuffs on the brake hoods, but nothing significant on the frame.

I am planning on replacing it with a Ribble 725 Endurance, or something similar (any thoughts?). I would like the braking security available on disk brakes while going down some of the quite steep Welsh hills around here!

I tried selling my 2013 TK3 in 2020 for £350. Immaculate. Ultegra/105 mix (6800/5800), Ksyrium Elites, Ritchey WCS bar/stem/seatpost, Fizik Arione. I would have thought £350 was cheap. Didn't even get an offer.

Wow Tim - that's sad. Mine has the original Tiagra drive train, so lower spec and older than yours.

Perhaps it will find a new life with my daughter instead then. It's a great bike, so a shame to give it away.

It's life's way of telling you that N+1 is really ok!

Look on ebay for what similar bikes have sold for (completed listings).

I've got a kinesis about that age and did have a look a few months ago, and it was last than I expected, maybe about £200

Check the fork recall - mine needed to be replaced.

The fork recall was for the Racelight T - it was a friend of mine at CC Sudbury who was killed by the failure that prompted the recall. I also had a Racelight T at the time, but fortunately I had a third-party fork.

Terrible story.
Didn't mean to divert the thread but I mentioned it as I wasn't sure if there was component-sharing between models.  I bought my Racelight T second hand about 5 years ago.  I only found out about it because I realised the steerer had been cut shorter than I would like so I did some searches for a new fork and saw the recall notices.  I contacted the guy who had sold me it and he was mortified when he read the link.

The TK series was a lighter, slightly more aggressive bike than the T. The T2 and TK2 were available at the same time. The TK3 (which became the 4S shortly after its introduction) was different again, with a tapered steerer.

These are the forks that were recalled:

• Full Carbon Racelight T (RT) - 2003/2005
• Racelight T Full Carbon - 2006
• 12K Racelight T - 2007/2009
• 12K - 2009

The replacement given during the recall was the DC07 fork, which I believe was the standard fork for the T2/TK2.
