Graffiti
« on: 03 November, 2010, 05:37:50 pm »
There had been a stormy high tide, and a heap of seaweed had been dumped on a domed rock, looking for all the world like an obvious toupé* on a baldy head.

It was crying out for some embellishment with a couple of spray cans.

* although Valkyrie and Maverick could claim with some justification that it looks quite convincing in comparison with others they might have seen.

No pics, I'm afraid, but I have a pretty good memory of a piece of wall FOI long before the act came into being.

On a stretch of red brick wall on the Heathfield Rd side of the Villa Cross pub was the legend "Is J Brookes the whispering grass?" for as long as I can remember passing it on the 46 (and 90 and 91?) bus as a child for the period 1970 - 1980.

At the time I remember wondering what a whispering grass was, then what he'd grassed. It was only many years later that I wondered if JB had met one of the horrible fates that sometimes befalls a grass.
What's so funny about peace, love and understanding?

One from the archives Bernauerstrasse, Berlin,  1977 (or possibly 1978)
