Woops,
descending into Lofthouse today, I forgot to nag the Captain about leaving off the third brake which on our setup is a V-Brake on the front.
Just as we got into the houses... BANG. Then a clatter :(
Luckily we were only at walking speed so the only damage was a trashed tyre, rim and some spokes but just in case anyone is wondering if popping tyres due to rim brake heating is something happens only in the Alps - it can happen here too!
Take Care,
very slightly scraped Morat

*winces sympathetically*
That's exactly what didn't cause my off (at rather more than walking speed) yesterday.

ooh are you OK?

Ouch.

https://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=11510.msg2166545#msg2166545 refers. If you can walk away from a sudden front wheel deflation at 40mph you're winning, I reckon. I've got some spectacularly unfortunate road rash, and the bike will need some work. Scary thing is that all I could find was a bog standard puncture, though I haven't taken a pump to the damaged tube to find the hole yet.
It all goes to show how much trust we put in some inflatable rubber...

OK, I'll have a wry smile, so people can stop worrying about being first to comment. Never trusted them myself! (Especially the Schwalbes - took so long to get on, she'd fall asleep).

I removed the third brake, as the kids thought it was hilarious to pull on it every few minutes!

All the brakes are controlled by the pilot on this tandem, I think it's a lot for him to think about :)

Went to the nurse today. Should have gone a week ago :(
Iodine patches and Mepore should dry everything up, apparently.
I'm going to buy some and stick them in my teeny first aid kit.
