Last week I finally achieved a long-held ambition of riding Manche-Med (Cherbourg - Perpignan, to be precise). Lots of bridges - here are just a few.

Crossing the Loire at Langeais (Indre-et-Loire) -

Pont Henri IV over the Vienne, Châtellerault (Vienne) -

Railway bridge over the Vienne at Lussac-les-Châteaux (Vienne) -

A20 motorway & railway viaducts at Pierre-Buffière (Haute-Vienne) -

Over the Dordogne near Floirac (Lot) -

Medieval bridge in Lagrasse (Aude) -

Not one bridge but two! A mere spit away from each other just north of Arlington reservoir, yesterday Sunday 28th July.

Certainly never seen cycling south of Sussex

Nice one Deaners. I counter with this:

Aln railway viaduct at Lesbury Underneath the individual images, some of them have a truncated caption. But if you click on the researched caption, it gives a fuller explanation*.

And if you go here: http://www.travellingartgallery.com/landscape/print/artist/list.html it has a list of railway carriage artists; a lot who covered painting bridges of course!

Have a happy hour or so trawling through.

*That appears to be bollocks. Tried a couple of others, and it keeps going back to Stanle Badmin's painting of Alnmouth. Grrrrr!

We found some interesting bridges in the West Mids.  Most are footbridges, and, unfortunately, one crucial one was missing entirely, but here's what we saw:

Wolverley

Cookley-ish

Bridgnorth

Arley

Curious one in Eymore Wood.  Seems the wooden bridge was rotten and it was covered in packed earth

Also Eymore Wood

Not absolutely sure of this one - between Balaam's Wood and Waseley Hills

Ford with a bridge beside it

On a byway

Not a bridge we crossed

Another byway

Crossing below a waterfall near Hampton Loade

Bridges over the canal in Kidderminster

And, finally, a very poor shot grabbed from a moving train.  This is the bridge which carries the pipeline from the Elan Valley to Frankley, which supplies Birmingham with Welsh water, over the Severn.  The pipeline is an ingenious piece of engineering, combining many solutions to carry the water 73 miles without pumping.

Devils Bridge, Kirkby Lonsdale

Dob park Bridge (one of my favourite spots)

The 1770's bridge over the River Aire at Ferrybridge (supeceded in the 70s by the new bridge & now that's bypassed too!!)

Ripponden, the Old Bridge (built 1530's)

Mytholmroyd (twixt Hebden Bridge & Sowerby Bridge - over the (infant) River Calder

East Marton, A59 west of Skipton (over Leeds  - Liverpool Canal

Harringworth Viaduct with bonus panniers:

SNAP! Though I've always known in as Welland Viaduct, sadly no bonus train for me, I did see it in one of the stations Between Peterborough and Leicester on Monday, Melton?  Well, what I could see of it through the rows of spotters.

And a little further up the road and completley different is this gem in Fotheringhay.

Richard, I'm not getting your pictures, have you deleted them from your remote site?  I'd like to see them because I know most of the bridges!

Lovely little sluice-with-a-bridge on the Alne.

Another summer during which, according to the contents of my SD card, I toured the bridges of Europe.

First off, Belgium.

A rather prosaic bridge over the Mandel at Izegem

A footbridge over the Mandel at Ingelmunster.

Another bridge over the Mandel (I think)

A lock & bridge combo over the Leie

A vertical-lift bridge encountered on the Willebroek Canal

... and another

... and another, this time rather more skeletal, with some impressive cables and suchlike.

This one was doing its best to look colourful in rather difficult circumstances

A pedestrian/cyclist bridge somewhere north of Mechelen

A bridge in Aarschot. The building is Hertogensmolens (duke's mill)
From the upstream side:

and downstream (with added bicycle)

Dinant, on the Meuse

And finally, Couvin
