Public transport / flying to the Alps
« on: 02 February, 2018, 03:24:38 pm »
Following our triumph in 2014 the Essex boys are once again planning a raid on the Alps.  Last time we drive down and could easily do so again.

But I'm researching other travel options.  We would like to base ourselves in  Le Bourg-d'Oisans which if we flew probably means landing at Grenoble airport.  There is allegedly a bus which takes bikes from Grenoble to Le Bourg.  Has anyone tried this?

Does anyone have experience of other options?

Thanks in advance.

Have you looked at "transfers" from the airport?  I went to Morzine a couple of years ago with LJ Jr and his downhill bike.  There are quite a few transfer services running to Morzine and they are geared up to take bikes - large minibus with a big area in the back for luggage and the seats all shunted forward to give about 6 inches of leg room.  There may well be a similar service to Le Bourg

We went there last year. Stayed at Chateu D’Oz. Great guesthouse run by an English couple. They organised taxis for some of us others with bike boxes took a hire car.

I would use the same route/transfer/guesthouse happily but we are moving up the valley this year to do different climbs.

When are you going?

Not much skiing then.
It is simpler than it looks.

We are heading down 15-20th June. If you can defer we may be able to help out on bike transport.

PM me if helpful.

Thanks but we've just booked accommodation.  We still haven't figured out how to get from the airport to Le Bourg but I'm sure there's a solution out there.
