Out of date Rego Recovery?
« on: 08 September, 2009, 05:03:33 pm »
At the back of the office cupboard I have found my old bottles of powdered Rego Recovery drink. It expired in Feb 2008.

It smells ok...

Did it actually expire? I would have thought that powdered stuff lasted yonks like tins foods?

Dunno about Rego Recovery.
David has recently used my 10 years out-of-date Isostar and is alive and well...

I'd be happy with it.  I have some supps from 2005 ;)
It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

Isostar is just sugars and minerals and Rego is made from dairy products... but I always think expiry dates err well on the side of caution. As long as there's nothing growing in there I'd give it a go.

It'll be fine.  If it's dry there should be little or no degradation of any note.  Most likely effect will be a loss or slight dulling of the flavour.  It certainly won't harm you.

There are legal maximum shelf lives for food products, and the manufacturers cannot exceed them. Why otherwise would a tinned product have a shelf life of 2 year when it's evident that it would last a lot longer. Possibly decades longer!

It's fine  ;)

No it isn't.

it is made from Soy protein (vegan friendly)

I wouldn't trust it. Protein grows nasty stuff.

If unopened, I think you could chance it.

You're right (just been down to the kitchen to check...) I always thought the protein in these things was whey protein - I must have been thinking about something else.

This thread gives me fresh hope that my collection of 'Best before May 2008' Go Gel sachets will one day perform the service for which they were created.

I had some out of date Rego a few weeks back and while it didn't actually make me ill I couldn't drink it. It wouldn't mix properly in the water, just stayed as horrible lumps. Binned the lot of it.

If there is any chance its been able to absorb any moisture, I wouldn't touch it.  Once you mix say, the strawberry Rego, its a nice pinkish colour.  Leave it a few hours, especially out of the fridge and goes a horrible grey.  Yuk.

I've recently polished off some 2008 vintage PSP22.  And lived. No problems.
