150mm wide rack - or alternative
« on: 01 August, 2017, 04:08:57 pm »
The trouble is having a 150mm wide carradice bag on a 130mm wide rack, which makes getting the panniers on an off something of a pain without removing the rack bag.  Does anyone make a 150mm wide rack, or am I better off having one of those that has the pannier mounts set below the rack on an additional rail?

This is all pushing towards putting a rack on the road bike and moving more towards a tourer/utility set up and doing an n-1 with the old MTB, ready to go N+1 eventually on another 'bent.

I've seen things like the Topeak Super tourist, or Blackburn Outpost etc, but don't want to press the button without a bit more information.

Separate rails for pannier mounting and top bag?

sorry, didn't explain that very well.  Yes those two I mentioned seem to have separate rails for the pannier mounts

This could be your answer. I have one on my rig which I've just measured.
The top rack has rails that measure 140mm outside to outside.
The bottom pannier 8rails measure roughly 175mm outside to outside.

I have both a Topeak Super Tourist and a Tortec Expedition, both of which have separate rails for the panniers.  Here is the Super Tourist in action.  I don't need two racks, so would you like to buy either of them?

That links not working, will pm you my email address if you could send photos. Would be happy to go second hand.

I'm assuming the topeak one will work with a carradice bag?
