spray paint a chainring...?
« on: 25 November, 2021, 03:31:17 pm »
I want a black chainset for a white tandem.  I can only get the right size outer ring in sliver.

Any reason why I couldn't spray paint it, when it is clean and new?  Obviously not the teeth.

I expect it won't last forever, but that doesn't matter.

I think I'd wait for a black one to become available, or use the silver one as is. Any non-factory paint will rub away and chip quite easily. Rattle can paint generally doesn't have great adhesion on unprepared alu and an etch primer may be an expensive solution.

There are a few 'DIY Anodising' videos on YouTube...  Might be worth considering?

Do report back if you do try it!

Job avoided  :)
Just had a call from Bob at Spa who read this post and made the connection with the order he was getting ready for a tandem chainset with one silver ring. He is now ordering me a TA black ring, so I don't need to mess around with rattle can!
Thanks very much Bob!
