I use raisins as 'osmotic sponges' to mop up excess moisture in fruit cakes.

There's a cake you can take pride in makingIt vaguely reminds me of Lumbergh's birthday cake in Office Space. I thonk it's the blue.
I think with some of these cakes, it's not even so much about how perfect or not they are, but the clear love and time that has gone into them and the personalisation, character and humour they can bring.
