Sounds like a very dull course to me, but then most Olympic RR courses are.

I don't think that zigzag road is adequately hillful to be enough to make interesting viewing - it's neither particularly steep nor particularly long - it's just a drag. I suppose that it could still be a launching point for an attack, particularly using the tight corners which will have to be negotiated more slowly by the peloton, but that's more about the corners than the hill. Then again it is a nice spot for a picnic, but it is that whether there is a cycle race or not.

Not sure exactly where I would pick to watch the race, but given that we currently live on the course, give or take a hundred yards, I suppose I ought to give it some thought.

I've just looked at the map.  I don't think the riders are going to like all those info controls. (Cancellara to Cavendish: "Can I borrow your pen? Quickly please.")

<thinks about it some more>

At least this means they're going to have to improve a few road surfaces around here.

Well I was thinking of trampling the delicate woodlands of Box Hill but will probably settle for a picnic in Richmond Park instead.

If the time the Tour of Britain passed through Surrey was any guide, count yourself lucky if any of the route gets surface dressing, never mind proper tarmac!  :demon:

Edit: At least they are doing multiple circuits for the Olympics - the ToB was a case of blink and you missed it.

How come the gurls only have to do half as much?

I thought this was a world of equality.

Looks like they're going to be going down Bastard Hill (Richmond Park) - that should make for some interesting viewpoints near the bottom, especially if they meet any deer!

Won't somebody think of the hamsters!

No, they are going Kingston gate to Richmond then out Roehampton gate. Sawyers Hill rather than Dark Hill (not going past Robin Hood gate.)

On the way out they just come in Roehampton gate and out Richmond gate.

Yes, I just diid a bit more googling of the course and saw that. A bit of a pity, they're taking the straight roads round the park rather than the scenic ones, but I suppose at the speeds they'll be going at and with the competitiveness more of them are likely to make it to the finish that way.

Most of the roads look pretty good, especially on the way back. Nice wide run up through Leatherhead, Esher, Hampton Court.

No landmarks quite on the scale of the great wall, but plenty of novelty to keep the commentators amused.

Looks great - I'm going to guess that Box Hill will be the main focus for many spectators (along with the Mall), but I think the suggestion of a picnic in Richmond Park makes sense.  It'll be quite humbling to see the pros whizzing through the same roads I ride all the time - if they try hard, they might be able to go as quick as me around the park...

It's all pretty exciting this whole Olympic thing, we cycled over to the stadium at the weekend and it's very impressive.

Has there been any indication where the TT will be held yet?
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

It goes through a village a friend lives in.

She'll be out there the night before with a CDC stencil.

Who is CDC? Is he (she?) likely to win? British rider?

I think you'll find he quite often comes first
It didn't look at all like that in the photographs

Yebbut, it's the first weekend of the Olympics, and the weekend after the TdF finishes.  Going to be some tired legs out there.

The timing's good for Cavendish.

Judging by his performances on the Champs Elysees the last two years he's at his peak at the end of the Tour. If he can maintain that for one more week...

And the route for the TT, starts and finishes at Hampton Court.
