From the moody Arbor Low, the Peak District's answer to Stonehenge, though this might be the most cheerful rock there

It's a giant lizard that smiled as it was turned to stone.

Can pale coloured rocks under a sunny sky be moody, asked Mr Larrington’s Imaginary FriendI she has many photos of rocks, but a lot of them are from western USAnia on sunny days.

If they're the sort of thing that Captain Kirk might engage in hand-to-hand-combat under, then absolutely.  USAnian version of a dalek-infested quarry, innit.

That scene in “The X-Files” where Mulder discovers a box car apparently full of dead aliens was filmed with the aid of:
  • a quarry just outside Vancouver BC, and
  • a metric fuckton of red paint

Nice, is that the one near Bowland, Nikki, rather than the Penrith Hutton Roof?

Fleckenstein, our local moody rock:

This place even has a treadmill-operated winch cut into the rock so that a moody prisoner could be set to hoisting moody water from its moody well up into the moody baron's lugubrious apartments.

And again:

I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Not just one rock, which is sullen at best, but also the lump on the horizon, which cycling's Mark Cavendish*,  reputedly moody from time to time, has been known to refer to as "The Rock".

That is a location worthy of Dornford Yates (although he tended to specialise in Austria and south-west France)

St Medana's Boat. This is the rock on which St Medana is said to have sailed from the Mull of Galloway across Luce Bay to Monreith Bay.

On arrival, she plucked her eyes out and almost immediately a spring gushed forth which miraculously restored her eyesight.
