Toe covers

Anyone know if toe covers work with trad SPD shoes, or do they need a BFO walk-like-a-duck cleat sticking down out of the shoe-sole to hook on to?  Could have used toe covers this morning.

Mine work with my SPD. I think I even wore them over sandals. I can't remember what make they are, they're neoprene.

Ta!  Being a tight-fisted bugger I didn't want to fork out 13€95 on spec.

I’m using the Lusso version with recessed spd cleats (https://www.lusso.bike/products/thermal-toe-covers-orange), which work fine for me

Mine are Planet X/ Carnac cheapos and I misremembered - they're not neoprene they're polyester/nylon.

Carnac? That's a blast from the past, my first three pairs of cycling shoes were from them.  First ones lasted 7 or 8 years, the last ones 3, which is why they went bust.  The soles were mostly cardboard.

Lusso are a UK firm - never seen their stuff here.  I tried their shorts once, back in the balmy pre-Boris days: OK but not great.

Just ordered a pair of these: https://www.deporvillage.fr/couvre-pointes-spiuk-top-ten-membrane-jaune-fluo

I have dhb ones from Wiggle - well made and work well with spd's. Several years old and no sign of any wear. I also have the full overshoes in neoprene and in a thinner windproof membrane - all good. Also some more expensive Grib Grab waterproof overshoes, which are handy when the roads are wet as they're easy to wipe down.

+1 on the DHB toe covers. Amongst the cheapest available and they work well with SPD. They will wear out, but any overshoe will in my experience.

Tried out Spuik (terrible name) covers today: They work, but despite being the L/XL variant - 43 and over, and my shoes are 43.5  - they were so tight that the Velcro straps on my shoes pressed down on the veins and my toes got cold.  Obviously I need to fork out 100€ for new shoes that'll work with a 16€ item.

I bought a pair of Spatz as recommended on here. Excellent. Long enough to come to midfootand stretchy enough to go over speedplays.

A butcher chum used to envelop his feet in 50-cm-wide cling film.  Fortunately I was never around when he unwrapped them.
