10 speed bar end compatible rear mech?
« on: 29 November, 2021, 10:01:00 am »
Trying to find something to replace a floppy 105 rear mech
medium cage to index with my bar ends shifters
I think a Sora RD-3000 will work

 - Spa don't,
 - This is what I think tho'

Any 8, 9 or 10 speed road shifter will work with any 8, 9 or 10 speed road rear derailleur (unless it's Tiagra 4700).
Can anyone confirm the above...

I think you are right but I'm not too confident on new shimano stuff.

There's no doubt an old 9-speed one would work. I've used an old 9-speed LX rear mech with 10-speed DA bar end shifters.  That worked fine.

Thanks, ordered. with a note for spa to confirm. 10 speed = hard to find  :(

I'm using a 9-speed XT mech with Microshift 10-speed bar end on my tourer.  Indexing is *very* finicky for some reason, but it was with the previous 9-speed shifters (Dura Ace cheese, and the more robust Microshift), too.

I also have a 9 speed XT mech but paired with Shimano 10 speed downtube shifter. I bought this at a time when Shimano road mechs didn’t go greater than 28 teeth (officially) and I wanted to use a 11-34 cassette so a 9 speed MTB mech was compatible with road shifters whereas the 10 speed MT mechs weren’t. Now that Shimano road mechs have longer cages, this is no longer an issue.
I am often asked, what does YOAV stand for? It stands for Yoav On A Velo

I now have (I think) a 105 rear mech with 10 sp DA indexed bar end shifter on the recumbent.  I've previously used an old Tiagra 8-sp rear mech with a 10sp brifter with no issue.

105 brifter with 105 10sp rear mech has been the finnickiest for set up, but that maybe because I have a shimano cassette on the road wheel and a SRAM on the Turbo Trainer wheel and have set up fro "not quite right" on both rather than one being good and the other utter sh!te
