The Chelmsford Beer Festival is coming up soon - 13th to the 17th July.

CAMRA site

I haven't seen you lot for ages, so if you fancy coming along one evening, you'll find me there  :P

Edit: It's pretty big these days and held in Admirals Park. Last year was very good. It's come a long way since it was held in the now flattened SU bar and had me throwing up on some random bloke's shoes which resulted in him trying to strangle me!

How are we looking for this on Wednesday then?

I need to try and find my CAMRA membership card or search the internets for the secret CAMRA greeting that ensures free entry

I have a pass to attend but am not allowed to take a bike. Apparently I am likely to end up as a menace to myself and anyone else within a half mile radius. I shall let the train take the strain.

I will be beerfesting on Weds.

I'm also trying to work out a way of not having the bike with me!  I suppose I could just leave it at the office here.

Despite (probably) being in Grays on the Thursday morning, I will have to pass on this.

One day though....

So not only has the theme of these rides gone from getting more miles in to getting more pubs in, we're also now considering one where there won't be any cycling at all, and hundreds of beers. Brilliant! :P

Yes, your observation is not without truth. I think the top of the slippery slope was found some months ago. My only surprise is that it has taken this long to get to the bottom of the slope.

I think a  ::-) and a  ;D is called for!

I am thinking of staging a coup d'etat and starting a rival series of rides which feature a reasonable number of miles with a swift pint or two at a convenient pub.  Another feature will be getting to bed before 11pm  ;D

I'm not entirely sure how much company I'll have!

Last time at this beer festival there were lots of bikes locked up outside, does that count   :D

I shall definitely be there on Tuesday and Wednesday. I will be drinking much beer. I have to go to hospital on Thursday for blood tests (and get results from the last) and fully expect my doctor to say "GET THE BOLLOCKS OFF THE FUCKING PISSAHOLZ!" So I may as well make the most of it and go out in style!

Station to beer festival can be done completely off road, so bring bikes!*

*Or just get completely wankered and walk  ;)

My plan to bunk off work this afternoon and go to Look Mum No Hands to watch today's Tour stage whilst knocking back a few beers with the Chelmer has been thwarted by work commitments. On the up-side, I will definitely now be at the Chelmsford Beer Festival this evening!

Current copy of the Essex Chronicle contains cut out voucher for free entry - today only.

I took a stroll down there this morning. The CAMRA dudes are busying themselves putting the finishing touches to the vast area of beer serving goodness.

I have cut out my coupon from the Chronicle. I am ready to go  :P

Hmm... Despite it neatly fitting into my MEMWNS progression curve of miles cycled (M) per pint (P) plotted against time:-

Code: [Select]

 M |      *

(aka the "slippery slope")... I'm going to have to pass on the visit tonight, I'm afraid.  :'(

Don't eat too many of Podge's Gourmet Pickled eggs (or if you do, be sure to wash them down with something chewy).

Bugger, never mind.  I will carry on regardless but hope to excercise some restraint on both the pickled egg and beer front so I don't end up in too much of a snotty heap.

And токамак, he just doesn't know it yet  ;)

Word of advice - it's quite expensive at around £2.80 - £3.00 a pint. It will cost cost you 4 of your hard earned pounds to get in and you'll need to shell out 3 for a pint glass (This is refundable should you not want to keep the glass) There are no cash machines near by. Fill your wallets early....

Well, you'd get in for free if

a) you were a fully paid-up beirdy-weirdy (CAMRA, not AUK)

and

b) You had some idea where your membership card was! <stagedirection type="point and laugh" direction="towards chief">

I need to gear-up my fixer for a race tomorrow. 48x15, 84" should do it. And I suppose I should test ride it first, perhaps in the direction of Admirals Park, to make sure that I can get a sufficient wang on. ;)
