It's virulent stuff.  Thanks for the pictures, as always.

The insect was a bonus. I didn't spot it until I got home and saw the image on a PC screen.

Great stuff.  Are they current?  If so, I'm going to have to get out to my usual fly agaric spot - I usually reckon October - November.

Artist's bracket? I came across one about 40-50 cm across the other day. Photo to follow, meanwhile some puffballs on a rotten fallen tree nearby

Artist's bracket. Everything below it is covered in brown dust (spores)

and with a goalkeeper's hand for scale

The top of the tree looked healthy, with plenty of leaves, but the lower branches had all broken off, and the stumps of the branches looked hollow. The horizontal lines on the fungus are annual growrg ridges.

An oyster mushroom, I think. As with the artist's bracket, the lower half of the tree looked dead, with no leaves, but the upper branches appeared healthy.

We were given some wood - an old apple tree which had died.  The lumps have been in our back garden for a couple of weeks. We noticed these (can anyone indentify them?)

Which then turned into this a couple of days later...

I would say the Common Ink Cap.

Fun fact: These are not poisonous, unless you have drunk alcohol either a few days before or after ingestion (the alcohol liberates the toxin). The have historically been used to treat alcoholism by providing a disincentive to imbibe.
