Time to claim back your money:

Nigeria's EFCC 'finds $43m in Lagos flat'

Quote
More than $43m (£34m) has been seized from a flat in Nigeria's main city, Lagos, the anti-corruption agency says.
Officials raided the flat after a tip-off about a "haggard-looking" woman in "dirty clothes" taking bags in and out of it, the agency added.
The money was believed to be from unlawful activity, but no arrests have as yet been made, the agency added.
This is the latest in a series of raids which uncovered bundles of cash in Nigeria, Africa's biggest economy.

Each time I search on the internet for $WHATEVER, I'm getting used to see, in the next hours/days, my browser window full of ads for $WHATEVER. But this morning, when I turned on the computer, my browser was surrounded with ads trying to persuade me to buy an oscilloscope. The last time I went closer than 10 meters from an oscilloscope was at the university, long long ago! i swear I never searched on the internet for an oscilloscope. Any idea of what happened?

WTF?

I am pleased that I can write to you, I certainly do not know what your name is and where you are from.
But, I apply to a dating company and give me your email address.
You do not think that I play with you, I am a lonely woman and I want a normal and honest relationship!
Tell us about yourself ? How are you ? I'm not interrupting you?
My Name Anna, do you know?
I want to get to know you and I think that we would get communication with you.
I am already 28 years old and this is the age for creating a family, what say?!
Sorry could not poison the photo, but I will do it next time.
I'm looking for only a serious relationship, I do not need sex or just friendship, I hope that you are a lonely man and you will understand me.
I ask you also to poison your photo and in the next letter I will try to tell about myself.
I'm hoping now that you will answer me.
I'm worried, but I hope to see your answer soon.
Have a nice weekend.

Hypothesis:
Source language verb was some equivalent of give/gift -- auto translation--> German (gift = poison IIRC)
further auto translation from German --> almost but not quite entirely unlike English?

Of course! I am supposed to be a bloody linguist... Same auto-translated message going to multiple countries, then. Wonder what the original language was.

Not spam so much as phishing but our Chairman had a very convincing email today puporting to be from someone she knew and sharing a dropbox link.
The attachment was actually a .pdf with a very convincing graphic of a dropbox link sharing page except the link was to some malware. Luckily Firefox blocked the address or I might still be at work.

The whole thing was incredibly well done, and very convincing indeed. This was the only version that was actually opened and clicked, but a couple of other users reported receiving similar emails.
Look out!

Since I seldom order through Amazon (Mrs. Moleman76 is the person in charge of that), I'm even less likely to cancel.  The "order number" shows up as a clickable link.  I click delete ahead of that ...

Now, please help me parse this:

Which of the following links will make me rich, so I can just buy bicycles and ride them all the time:

"Let me tell you why this stock will go up 10x by next week."
"Here's why this company's shares are about to go up tenfold next week."

3 of the former, 4 of the latter, in my mail this morning.

Apparently I have been awarded 1000kg  of gold and 1000kg of diamonds from Libya, just for being a good citizen and paying my taxes

The letter must be official, it came from USania

Neither of them. What might make you rich is buying some mildly worthless stock, and then sending 10 gazillion emails like those telling people that the stock is about to balloon in price.

Received an email from my American SiL yesterday.  Nothing in the subject line.  Not her style of writing at all.

A salutation which was just not her style.  A web link.  Then a sign off that really wasn't her style either.

Obviously I didn't click the link.

I've contacted her by means other than email and she's just come back to confirm that she didn't send me an email.

Deleted and bin emptied.  Her problem now.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.
