Continuing the theme...
HackersBarakta found the DVD in a charity shop a while ago, and it was the first thing to hand while checking that libdvdcss2 was installed correctly
[1]. I realised I'd never seen it all the way through, so decided to rectify that.
Oh my god it's dire. It should be destroyed in case impressionable children find it and think the 1990s were really like that. Okay, it's maybe not that bad, if you ignore everything pertaining to computers, don't find the main characters obnoxious, can cope with the horrendous sexism, gratuitous product placement and don't question why all the school-age characters are played by adults but most of the adult characters are about 12.
On the plus side, they did do some dumpster-diving (though that's not traditionally a sexual activity that culminates in a firearms offence, but maybe I've just been doing it wrong), and the Wikipedia article about the film contains the following gem:
The cast spent three long weeks getting to know each other and learning how to type and rollerblade.
Which is so fantastically 90s that it almost makes up for what I just watched.
I think I need a good strong dose of
Sneakers[2] to recover...
[1] Which represents about 1000% more h4xx0ring than you'll see in the entire movie.
[2] Proper Hollywood hacking, Robert Redford and River Phoenix. What's not to like?
