I'm ready (well as ready as I'm ever going to be)

But just debating whether I need a longer gear having just looked at the hills or lack thereof.

Don't worry about that. Just beer money you should be concerned about.

Good point! Nearly forgot that!

I'm aiming for a 7 o'clock start, will be riding a light blue single-speed. What's your plan?

We are catching the 6:50 train from Brighton to Clapham and then to Barnes, so lord knows when we'll drift off. Most probably around 8.30ish I guess. So good luck. I very much doubt if we'll catch you up!

I shall be riding a silver un-named MTB, now with knobbly tyres on, having forsaken my front slick and rear town & country set-up.

Made it! Finished in 7 1/4 hours.

Wish I'd had a longer gear now

Well done Paul. Haven't read your blog yet, and can't remember our time. With the trains being borked at Brighton, we had to cadge lifts from wives to Gatwick. So a 5:30 start for us. Interesting descent into Sheere wasn't it? A couple of chums punctured, and didn't much enjoy all the battering through the woods of Mordor, seeing as how the tension spring in my deraiilier 'went', so I had to keep in the large chainring all the way thereafter and, yes, I did walk up Bostal Hill, thanks for asking!

Descent into Sheere was fun, climbing out more 'interesting'. My rear wheel slipped out of the dropout, dropping the chain!

I walked up Borstal Hill but was no slower than those trying to ride it, the one guy who made it all the way up was so exhausted that I then passed him on the road climb but well done to him all the same

I walked up past a chap who was cycling up it. I looked back and grinned. I believe we understood the absurdity of the situation.
