Route tips - Wem to Preston?

I am looking at riding London to Preston and have a reasonable feel for the southern and middle parts but I am less familiar with the last section. Any suggestions?

I am on a trike with road tyres, so Sustrans/ bridlepath muddiness should be avoided. Thundering along dual carriageways is not particularly relaxing either.

Whitchurch, Nantwich, Windsford, lovely Cheshire lanes to Lymm, accros the Warburton bridge, Glazebrook, Culcheth, edge of Wigan, Standish,  A49 to Preston (not to busy out of rush hour). Don't bother with Preston come and visit us all in Blackpool.

Thanks but the race is in Preston and riding between Blackpool and Preston means extra miles on the day. I’m not that fit.

We rode exactly that route - Wem to Preston doing LEJOG - if you want to PM an email addy I can send you the gpx files.   

Route was broadly:
Wem
Whitchurch
Delamere Forest (stop at the Delamere Station cafe!)
Frodsham
Runcorn
Widnes (I think there's another bridge now)
Rainhill
Upholland
Appley Bridge
Eccleston
Preston

Predominantly minor (yellow OS) lanes with the odd bit of B road - skirting built-up areas etc.

I've actually done the route, exactly the same, both ways (JOGLE then LEJOG - no issues, and not many hills

Beware of Runcorn.  It's a fractal and you may never find your way out.

As mentioned above, Wem to Preston is on or close to many LEJOG routes.

Avoid leigh, its a bit grim.
