Vista didn't recognize SD card - it does now !
« on: 23 March, 2010, 11:46:07 am »
I recently purchased a new (not NOH) Vista HCVx and finally managed to get it introduced to the PC.  ;)

I have downloaded the latest drivers etc, andygates's MunkyMaps, [http://www.ravenfamily.org/andyg/maps/], unzipped them, loaded them onto the SD card, restarted the GPS and  ....

... nothing but basemap.  >:(

My understanding is that the Vista is not recognizing the SD card, so not seeing the OSM contained therein.

Anyone know where I have gone wrong ?

I've got my first 200k audax on Sunday and would like to know where I am to go ....  ;)

What size is the card?  I don't know much about Vistas, but one possibility is that it's an SDHC card (most of the larger ones are), and the Vista will only talk to SD cards, not SDHC ones.
Actually, it is rocket science.

Sorry, should have said - it's 2GB.

I think you will find that the latest Garmin firmware upgrade does allow SDHC (I usually use a 4Gb in mine)

... and to the question- what's the file-name you have on the card ... IIRC the GPS only recognises one specific file name ... can't remember offhand what it is

Could possibly still be SDHC, unusual but 2Gb ones do exist.  To work with SDHC your GPS may need a firm/software upgrade, very easy to do via 'Webupdater'.
Reseat the card a few times.  Make sure its formatted FAT or FAT32.

Have you put the map in the right place?

It must be inside a /Garmin/ directory.
ie
[card]/Garmin/gmapsupp.img
nothing else will work.

 YAY !!  YAY !!

I have maps  ;D

Thank you all - and frankly, frankly frankie - you nailed it.  :o

I needed to put a Garmin folder onto the card, then put the gmappsupp into that and it works !

Whew  ;D

Now to input my audax route, carry the routesheet and a paper map and ..... go for it !
